Re: Reading What The Enemy Reads

[ QUOTE ]
Anyway, my point is just that I don't think he's giving bad advice as much as he's emphasizing avoiding the things that will get new players in trouble.

If I didn't make that point...

Re: I hope Ed Miller will forgive me, I might have cost him a book sal

[ QUOTE ]
I like the post flop strategies involved in analyzing flops and other players' play.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea, I agree, that was very good. The strategies and plays seem to get all the...

Re: An odd one

[ QUOTE ]
With five opponents in a low limit game...I have no idea. But whereas I might well bet the flop, it would not be so that I could "probe" for an 8, if that is what the initial respondant...

Re: Books?

Very good. The first part of the book gets a little slow, but when he gets into the trading psychology, the 2nd half of the book, it is very powerful.

Re: An odd one

Have to agree that betting the flop was the proper play. You had position and no one showing strength.

With this flop, I would rather do some probing at the small bet level rather than call a big...

Re: Newbie Question - Info on Multi-table-ing

I would also like to know how someone plays 8 tables. I played 3 once and the frustration was more than I could handle. I usually play 2 at most.

High Probability Trading

This is a trading book, not an investing book. It is a nuts and bolts realistic view of trading and the time and effort required to be successful....

Re: General pot odds/pot equity question

Unless I am missing something, you DO have the pot odds to call. You are slightly better than 2:1 to hit your nut flush by the river when you are 4 suited on the flop.

Re: I am on a mission.

I think it is an excellent idea. Kind of wish I would have done something similar. This keeps it exciting...makes it a challenge, regardless of the amount.

Is there enough limit Omaha 8/B at...

Re: ATs hand.

You're right too, checking the flop is weak-tight. I am not disagreeing with you, nor am I saying Avatar played it wrong, but you only have a draw in a small pot and you're against a calling...

I have started to read a couple of poker books, but looking to increase my knowledge quickly.

Re: ATs hand.

Something to consider (I will be accused of being weak-tight). After the flop, where are you? You have a gutshot and a backdoor……heads up! Very weak holding and bad odds against someone who has...

Re: adjusting to life after SSH

[ QUOTE ]
I think I'm doing the same things. I think those things are the common traps based on the suggested strategies. I mean, you're supposed to be aggressive with marginal hands in large...

Re: What is the first book I should read?

I agree with ctv1116. WLLHE gets some grief on these forums but it is still a very good book. It is not as advanced and targeted as SSHE, but it is the best book to start with, even if you already...

Re: Just ordered 3 books, what order should I read them in?

Willy's right. If you are only 2 months in the game, TOP will be a bit much. Start with Winning Low Limit Holdem...read it least twice, then move on from there. Since you own it, read ITH (I haven't...

Re: adjusting to life after SSH

[ QUOTE ]
I also had a reversal of fortune after reading/implementing SSH. There are some flaws in the use of Ed's "ideal" plays. The flaw is not so much the overall play itself, the flaw is in...

Whew! Amazon will be glad to hear from you.

I usually caution against buying many books and trying to hastily read them all, you just can't get much from an instructional book with a single...

Re: Jim Brier refutes SSH strategy...

You make alot of good points. UB and PP are different worlds. You can win more hands at UB, but you don't win much money. You can win (or loose) more money at Party.

More importantly, you’re point...

This is clearly a mistake but not a huge one Isuspect in terms of EV. The bigger problem, as with many small pre-flop mistakes, is that it opens the door to making additional, and perhaps...

Re: Pocket Pair on a Paired Board

Perfectly sound strategy. You may have to re-group if a passive player makes it 3 bets.

How did the hand play out?

Re: \"Middle Limit Holdem\" Advice -- Do you agree?

That's cool. I didn't mean to come on too strong.

Here's my attempt to answer your questions:

Question #1: In a small stakes game this is a tougher question. 2 overcards against a very likely...

Re: \"Middle Limit Holdem\" Advice -- Do you agree?

You posted this in a “Small stakes” forum, but remember his book is about Middle Limit poker, which will be somewhat tighter and more solid (with some exceptions of course).

With this in mind,...

Re: Jim Brier refutes SSH strategy...

Very helpful post Ed...again. I have been devouring your book and lovin' every bite, but the raise middle pair against many hands issue (I had seen posts about it on 2+2) was perplexing to me. Once I...

Ditto on jtr's list. Numbers 1 & 3 are very likely suspects.

It is not really a "weird thing"....happens all the time.

I wouldn't say you need to play any tighter than you would otherwise...
