Default An odd one

Live 4/8. 4 limpers to me in the CO with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and I raise. BB calls and the limpers call.

6 to the flop for 12.5 SBs. Flop is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Checked around.

Turn is another 8. Checked to the player on my immediate right, a waaay bad, waaay loose, erratic player who bets. I raise, folded to an EP erratic gambooler who 3-bets, we both fold.

Meh.

You have 6 outs against a non 8. About 7 times you will pay that extra bet and get lose 1 BB. 1 time you will hit your A or Q and win about 13 BB. Very occasionally you will hit your A or Q, he will have an 8, and you will lose a total of 2 bets. I think this is a call.

I have no clue why you didn't bet the flop.

I am certainly an advocate of checking way more flops than the average 2+2 poster seems to like to, but I think this is a sure flop bet.

Have to agree that betting the flop was the proper play. You had position and no one showing strength.

With this flop, I would rather do some probing at the small bet level rather than call a big bet on the turn.

Do you really think that an 8 is going to checkraise the flop?

With five opponents in a low limit game...I have no idea. But whereas I might well bet the flop, it would not be so that I could "probe" for an 8, if that is what the initial respondant was suggesting.

I think the point was just that "proding" on the flop isn't really gonna tell you much. In case that wasn't the point, its now my point.

EDIT: Damnit, I was too late I guess.
