Curious about Helmuth v. Philips hand
Philips on button, both limp, flop AK9 two suited, Helmuth flops top pair, mid-kicker, Philips flops second pair, weak kicker. Helmuth checkraises flop, then moves in on turn. Philips, though...

Re: Negreanu\'s exit
Limp re-raising all-in pre-flop is not the obvious play, but probably the best one here. It is almost impossible to envision Negreanu, Raymer, Moneymaker, Goerring or anyone else who has won a major...

Re: spirit rock hand
P. would not normally consider a hand that could beat AQ HU on river a "bluffing hand", so this is either a value bet or a hand worse than AQ -- no in between here.

Turbos
I am a 30% ROI player in SNGs $100 and higher (have played more than 500 each at $100 and $200). I have never considered playing turbos. My play is quite adaptable to different styles, however. Am...

Worst WSOP play of all-time
There has been much discussion of whether the TOC was chopped (I believe it was chopped informally among four to six players, though it would be interesting to get Fossilman's take -- my...

Re: Results
Easy all-in. UTGs play is a lot more questionable. I probably call you on the flop here, but it's a cryyyying call. I don't open limp with aces though (I do cold-call with them on occassion).

Re: Results
To quote my good friend Marcel Luske: "No, you had kings. I KNOW you had kings." But I admit I may have made up the part about utg calling and spiking the Q.

Re: what should jen have done?
jen can't go anywhere with AsKs, but still she would rather utg fold on the flop than play an all-in pot. my point is that an $800 bet is more likely to induce a fold than if she bets all-in,...

what should jen have done?
what should jen have done? in general, an $800 bet on the flop is more likely to induce a fold here than either an all-in or pot-sized bet. on the other hand, a pot-sized bet is more likely to...

Re: 25-50 NL calling station.
Very nice pre-flop decision -- there is a continuum of aggro where it becomes proper at some point to re-raise pre-flop given these stack sizes, but it sounds like he is well past that point...

Re: Commerce Hand (Botched, I Think)
$3,000 check-raise is ridiculous?!!!! Except under special circumstances (see my post above), it is the obviously correct choice if you are trying to maximize EV (e.g., EV not adjusted for...

Re: Commerce Hand (Botched, I Think)
I'm assuming 10/20? Pre-flop call is bad unless CO is really atrocious. Flop is an easy check-raise all-in. The only way this is not the right play is if you put a high probability that either one...

Re: PLO hand
This is a tough call for me as well because I like to lean on my post-flop play in PLO. But you probably don't have that luxury given your stack size and blinds coming up. If the 9 were a 10 I...

For what it's worth, and it may be somewhat relevant here, your image in this game is of someone who brings a lot of Mama's money to the table. Not saying this is fair or accurate, just a fact. ...

Important consideration overlooked
No one has mentioned a very important fact: JT has at least 3 and possibly four outs to the stone-cold nuts on river. He has about 6 additional outs to the nuts where worse case he chops. Either...

Assume 30% ROI at Party 50-200 SNGs. Assume player is equally strong in:
1. early play when stacks are relatively deep
2. on bubble (i.e. 4-6 players left)
3. ITM (especially heads-up)

Your original approach was creative, but there are much more direct means to model tournament EV IMO. As for the simulation, I don't understand your model (or the results for that matter -- how can...

Re: A good use of stop-and-go with snowmen?
I sure hope you're not planning to publish a book with this sort of advice. As you well know, the luck factor already makes it tough enough to win tournies. If we get a lot more players thinking at...
