$3,000 check-raise is ridiculous?!!!! Except under special circumstances (see my post above), it is the obviously correct choice if you are trying to maximize EV (e.g., EV not adjusted for variance). Not even close. A possible alternative would be a $1,500 check-raise, only because you want the BB to fold 2-pair etc., and an all-in check-raise might scream "draw" to him, while a smaller bet might be scarier, while still not giving him the correct pot or implied odds to call with a bigger flush draw. It would be the unusual situation where you would hesitate committing all of your chips in NL after flopping a straight flush draw -- this is not that unusual situation.
By the way, I would be quite curious to see some intelligent feedback on this even more controversial NL math post if any one wants to get further down this line of thinking: JT hand The responses were quite disappointing in there poignancy. |
