Re: Should I buy the original Super System?

If only to have read the book that changed poker and poker literature as we know it, yes.
If only for the value of the poker knowledge between the covers, yes.
If only for the entertainment value,...

Re: Which order should I read these?

Internet Texas Hold'em by Hilger. It is not just for beginner's, and not just for the internet. A comprehensive and thorough intro through intermediate level text. I had all the others you...

Re: Which order should I read these?

Untill ITH came out, WLLH (2nd edition) was the best beginner's book. ITH is much better. Either of those first, then SSH, TOP, and HEFAP.

Re: Mediocre 3 Flushes

A 3 flush on third with 3 cards out is greater than 8 to 1 to complete. 4 out is greater than 10 to 1. I'm not good enough to overcome those odds. With 2 out it comes in 15% of the time, so if I...

Re: Which 3 books?

TOP, as you stated, is the priority. Improve Your Poker by Ciaffone is in my top ten all-time best list, and I concur the aforementioned Feeney's ITPM is excellent as well. I have read/studied the...

Just lucky, I guess...

Since I slept on it and then re-read the thread, I've had the opportunity to realize I wasn't far wrong in my guess work. Merely incorrect. I probably would have flunked with most professors, but...

Re: need help with pot odds

All I can say is you better get a road map 'cause you're getting sent down the wrong road home left and right.

Can you please explain to me how to figure those win percentages with [8 /images/graemlins/spade.gif10 /images/graemlins/spade.gif]J /images/graemlins/spade.gifagainst x opponents? Or point...

Re: HEPFAP suggestion just idiotic.

It's an advanced tactic with proper odds (+EV), indicated for use in tight middle limit games with good players. Actually, not understanding the fundamental concepts and consequently playing...

Re: Good Stud Play?

I see three to a straight flush with one(19%) or two(15%) spades out, 7 players and only one raise, I'm happy to call and take one or two off. If the 8J10 and 7Q9(6K) are also pretty live, that's a...

Re: AAA

I smooth call on fourth for sure, but that's an astute observation regarding sixth. Bet and just call the raise. Would you then attempt a check raise on seventh, or just lead out for $10 hoping for...

Re: Mediocre 3 Flushes

I can't find anything even remotely redeeming about either of those hands. And I look hard for reasons to play.

Re: Worst Advice Ever...

That seems analogous to slipping an extra bet or two as an ante into the pot just for fun. I haven't read his book, and won't buy it now that it's widely panned. I just don't trust anyone who is an...

Re: video poker books

Mason Malmuth gave excellent reviews to the two books by Bob Dancer, Million Dollar Video Poker and Dancer's Winner's Guides. I haven't read them. Reportedly, Winner's is the detailed strategy...

Re: Pot Odds

Flush draw is 2 to 1 on the flop, 4 to 1 on the turn, close enough. 1.8 and 4.2 if memory serves. 2 callers on the flop should take you to the river. Overcards? Backdoor draw? Raise! Pot odds...

Re: religion and logic

God's gonna get you for that. After all, or, in the beginning if you like, the cards do conspire.

True story this, from a different era. My mom decided she wanted to finish college (to pursue a...

Re: Beginner Books

I purchased ITH recently and can no longer recommend WLLH. WLLH (2nd ed.) was a great help, and the best intro book available in '01, but no longer. ITH is not just a beginner's book either. It's...

Re: New to Online Poker - How best to Get Started

Welcome Werewolf,

I understand exactly where you're coming from. Except the part about playing well in the service. The old barracks rat lifers (seargents) cleaned my clock. If it weren't for...

Three times for TOP and HAP, and once for SSH. I've studied some sections of TOP and HAP, but very little. I'm going through ITH right now, before I ship it to Iraq. I'm duly impressed, and will...

Re: Chess player taking up poker

Agree with Rudbaeck. I'm not sure what alternative route other than study hard and play well was suggested to you, but don't go there. Also get SSH by Miller and Co., and I'll suggest a reading...

Re: integrating the psychological edge

Once upon a time, when I owned the ten "best" poker books, I thought I had read "all the books". Then, after the next ten, I wasn't so sure. Now, with a library approaching 30 books, I'm positive I...
