The opponent is checking and calling all the way which suggests a draw or weaker holding (bad kicker?)
The only likley draw is diamonds but we get just a call on the...

I agree.
He is capping the flop which could mean AA-QQ but the turn cap after you 3 bet means he is not scared of AA or QQ, meaning he does not have KK.
No way can he have 44 or 33 so its down to 2...

I raise, I think you may collect the sb and the cutoff enough times to warrant the raise.
Let alone the chances you have the best hand and the ability to take it down on the flop if a K or Q flops....

I like betting and folding to a raise better than checking and calling.
With a 4 flush board its possible he might fold a weak king with no diamond.
(the kind of hand he is calling with!)

some advice
Here are some tips that have helped me win at a nice rate.
(1) Make sure you have very sizable stats on your opponenets.

Ed Miller April SH article.
Let me just say it was a very nice explanation of the differences between early/mid position raises and SH raises when it comes to blind defence.
