Mike's out.

Bet 600K on a 5-3-2 flop, Dannenmann pushed, Mike called with TT. Steve flipped AJo. 4 on the turn gave him a straight, Mike couldn't catch on the river to tie.

Matasow's opponent went all in on a 2 3 5r flop, Matasow called with pocket ten's. Opponent showed AJo. 4 on turn, river no help, Matasow gone.

Title: Mike Matusow Eliminated in 9th Place ($1,000,000)
Log: Hand 28 - Daniel Bergsdorf has the button in seat 4, Dannenmann raises to $300,000, and Matusow calls from the small blind. The flop comes 5s-3s-2c, Matusow bets $600,000, and Dannenmann immediately says, "All in." Matusow stops the action to study his opponent. He stands up, leaning out over the table to get a good look at his opponent before calling. Dannenmann shows As-Jc, while Matusow has pocket tens (10d-10c). Dannenmann was semi-bluffing with overcards, and he'll need to catch a four, a jack, or an ace to win the pot.

The turn card is the 4h, and Dannenmann makes a five-high straight to take a commanding lead in this hand. Matusow will need to catch a six or an eight to survive with a straight on the board.

The river card is a 9, and Mike Matusow is eliminated in ninth place, earning $1,000,000.

He walks over to Mark Seif in the crowd, who comforts him, and then the players from the final table all come over to shake his hand. Matusow is composed, but clearly disappointed. He's keeping his composure very well, and there are no outbursts or anger. Matusow is stunned,

Steve raises to $300,000 from second position, and Mike Matusow calls from small blind. Aaron folds from the big blind. The flop comes 5-3-2. Mike bets $600,000 and Steve re-raises all in. Mike calls and shows 10-10. Steve shows As-J. The turn card is 4 giving Steve a straight. Mike needs ace or six for a tie. The river is 9, and Mike Matusow is eliminated in 9th place. He wins $1 million.

Indeed. Phil is acting like the guy need a runner-runner. At the time of the all-in Mike was only 59.8% likely to win. He's a favorite, but it is much closer to a coin-flip than a horrible beat.

You're all missing the point. If they had been all-in preflop, it would have been a rough way for TT to lose to AJ, but we would have accepted it as a lost coin-flip. The point is that the action was post-flop, Dannenman made a stupid bluff, Matusow made an amazing read for his tournament life, and still went down. The fact that he outplayed his opponent and still lost is what makes this a bad beat, not the percentages.

Why was the read so amazing? It is almost an instant call with that board. If you would not call an all-in bet with TT when you DO NOT flop a set on that board then I can't imagine too many other boards when you would call an all-in bet.

It was a bad bluff and a bad beat but geez, the guy had a lot of outs. Most would not make that play BUT he did and it worked out. It's not like he caught a 2 or 3 outer.

Can someone help me understand what Negreanu and Hellmuth were just talking about? I missed the action and I beleive, one guy raised early to 300k, a flat call then the big blind re-raised. They were saying they KNEW the caller would fold easily and if he had a read that the original raiser was weak then the whole pot would be the re-raiser. Am I screwed up somewhere? Every time I look up, he's blowing people out of pots.

After bluffing Ivey and Raymer out pre-flop with junk like A2 yesterday, it's hard for me NOT to believe.

He's got a great story too. Young Irish guy attacks 1997 ME with overpowering aggression, implodes against Unger, goes into Buddhist hibernation, and remerges in 2005 to win the whole thing...

Hand 55 - Steve Dannenmann has the button in seat 8, he raises to $400,000, Lazar calls, and Hachem raises to $2,000,000. Dannenmann immediately says, "All in," and Lazar quickly folds, getting out of the way.

Dannenmann's stack is being counted down so Hachem knows what he's up against. It's $3,570,000 more if Hachem decides to call. He's in a tough spot here, having already put $2,000,000 into this pot.

Hachem folds, giving the pot to Dannenmann. Dannenmann says, "No more shows," against the protests of the crowd. That was a $4.5 million pot, and there wasn't even a flop.

That's a great swing in favor of Dannenman.

Title: Official Chip Counts
Log: Here are the official chip counts from the dinner break:

1. Aaron Kanter - $10,680,000 (seat 6)
2. Andrew Black - $18,230,000 (seat 2)
3. Tex Barch - $10,480,000 (seat 3)
4. Steve Dannenmann - $7,130,000 (seat 8)
5. Scott Lazar - $5,370,000 (seat 9)
6. Daniel Bergsdorf - $2,940,000 (seat 4)
7. Joseph Hachem - $2,450,000 (seat 1)

DVO
07-15-2005, 11:28 PM
Scott Lazar has the button in seat 9, Kanter limps for $120,000, Hachem limps from the small blind, and Black raises it to $620,000, Kanter calls, and Hachem folds.

The flop comes Jh-7c-5c, Black bets $500,000, and Kanter raises to about $1,600,000. Black quickly reraises to $6,600,000, and we've got two of the chip leaders ready to tangle at the final table.

Daniel Negreanu and David Williams are sitting right next to me (providing live audio commentary on our Webcast), and they both think that Kanter was caught with his hand in the cookie jar, and they think he's just stalling before he folds. He does not look happy, and nothing about his demeanor says, "Call." Black is carefully watching him, with a half-smile on his face, which seems to be his standard expression at big moments like this.

The longer Kanter takes to think, the more likely he is to have a piece of the board, or possibly a draw. There's some eye contact between the two players, and Aaron Kanter smiles as Andrew Black gets up to take a stroll around his chair.

It's been a full five minutes, and Aaron Kanter finally folds his cards. Andrew Black picks up a very large pot.

BTW now that it's getting shorthanded and Black has the big lead again, I'll go out on a limb and say he's gotta be the big favorite. He got a lil tired last night, but he seems sharp today. Man, what kinda odds could you have got yesterday morning that Greg, Ivey, & Mouth would all finish out of the top 8?

Incidentally, Tex Barch told Daniel that he thinks Black bluffed on that last big hand before dinner, "like he did to Ivey yesterday"???!!! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif Gonna have to check the log from yest.

Oh, and here's an unexpected development(from pokervoice): "A slight delay on that as once again power and Internet is lost in the media room. " At Binion's?! Shocked, shocked I say.

Lotta possibilities Lori, since it's a decision for the whole tourney. Black's saying he likes his hand a whole lot, so it must be something reasonably strong to agonise over mucking.

88 - TT - he'da prolly raised PF.

I say piece of the flop with a draw to go along with it, eg JcTc.

edit: haven't been following the action. Many would raise the likes of JTs also. If so, mebbe a weaker hand of the same sort.

- calling half your stack with K9?
- putting your tournament on the line with QT?

Huh?

Kumubou
07-16-2005, 01:26 AM
And the very next hand he first raised for 20% of his stack and then called a push with QTo. That's a Party 10+1 style move.

I suppose he was just trying to get the shortstack allin. I think the original raiser was Hachem, so Barch was trying to isolate him. And once Bergstrom moved in, I guess he had to call.

In the thread about the cardplayer broadcast (first page, I think) a guy gives a link to a codec that purportedly allows you to play realmedia files in another player. I downloaded it, but have not yet used it. If it works, I'll be happy to wipe realplayer off my computer forever.

He's mad at Matusow because Matusow called a hand that he wasn't involved with. Men was involved in a hand and Matusow called it; then he insulted Men's ability to speak English. The latter ploy is annoying, but Matusow should STFU in the middle of someone else's hand.
