It's good point about playing too many hands in general, but isn't that a blanket statement about QJs? I think it's more game dependant.

He didn't say what kind of game it was, but if it's a LP one with 3-5 players routinely seeing the flop in an unraised pot, limping there doesn't seem so out of line.

Which book tells you to fold QJs utg? Certainly not HPFAP. My copy is on loan to a friend right now so I can't get a quote, but if someone could find one to refute me I'll shut up.

I would fold KJs and ATs in early position before I would fold QJs.

I don't have pokertracker because I play UB so I can't 100% verify that limping these hands has been making me money, but I'm pretty sure it has. I also frequently limprr AA, KK, AKs, and occasionally AKo and AQs, so maybe that impacts my ability to profitably play other limping hands UTG. None of ATs KJs or QJs are default folds for me. In a tight enough, aggressive enough game I could fold any of them, but from what I've seen of Party 15 it does not seem to be tight enough to justify not playing these hands.

The game would have to be an extremely peculair one for me to fold QJs UTG. I agree that guys overvalue it and coldcall raises from early position when there is no chance of a multiway pot etc. That is a no no. But IMO...you are undervaluing it if you automuck them UTG.

Default Again?

Hello Sobe,

I think it benefits all if posters stay away from definitive statements if they are not experts/near-experts.

The last time I re-call you telling someone to hit the books-- you were responding to my post. After which Greg Raymer politely responded to you by saying you didn't know what you were talking about.

In addition I think it's a mistake (even for beginners) to blindly follow books' advice. They'd be better off listening to the better posters who play in the Party game or similar games anyway, imho.

Regards,
Jamie

Which book advocates mucking QJs for no raise in a 9-handed game?

Default Guess I\'m different

The place where I muck this hand is on the flop. I'm surprised that everyone thinks a flop call is routine.

Mucking this with a CO poster is silly.

Raising the flop against a SB preflop raiser is worse.

I play it the same.

I don't have time to respond in full but I agree that the flop play is at least close and folding should be considered.
