Default Re: My play and the turn

It seems pretty likely the BB has a medium overpair, so I would mostly ignore him in deciding whether or not to call the river. I'm also disinclined to think the SB has a big ace after his cap on the flop as he can't have a big flush draw with you holding the trump ace, so that probably leaves him betting a set or making a thin value bet with a big pair, as he should be disinclined to bluff through a loose player who obviously has something to show down. I may be giving the SB too much credit here for reading the BB's hand and likely call, but given he's tricky and the pot is big, folding seems pretty much out of the question anyway. I almost want to say this is a good place for a thin value raise, since you may get 2:1 on your money if both players call, and even a set should have a hard time 3 betting you on that board, but I don't know that I could muster the courage to do it at the table.

I was going to say fold, since you only beat A-8 and A-2. But I think you have enough pot-odds for an over call

Folding is out of the question--the ace was a very good card here for you. I think it's 50% likely that both players have big pairs, smaller than Ace. Meaning 50% likely you win, 50% likely you lose. Therefore, I believe a river raise, with the intention of folding to a reraise, is in order. If you did so 100 times, here's a possible breakdown:

20 times the SB reraises and you fold = -1200

20 times the SB calls but beats you anyway = -1200

5 times the BB reraises you and you fold = -300

5 times the BB calls and beats you anyway = -300

25 times both players call and you win = +3000

25 times BB only calls and you win = +1500

for a grand total of +1500/100 = $15/hand for a raise vs. $0 expectation if you just call on the river.

Default Re: Flush draw

Andy,

If I think the SB will likely call if I 3 bet, then that is what I usually will do. Get the money in now, take the lead and get information.

If I may lose the SB, I usually flat call. If I hit the flush I want more players.

I called. Small Blind has pocket queens, Big Blind mucked, and my hand was good.

My first reaction was to fold. My second reaction was my hand must be good, raise. But I wimped out and called.
