Re: A3s 300/600 sorta weird line
i do this from time to time. doing strange plays can be good for metagame/image and for actual hand strategy too.
it allows him to value bet more courageously with a pocketpair and at the same time you can avoid getting checkraised and calling down the loser the times he has you crushed. |

stupid question maybe, but do you ever do this without an Ace, KK or QQ?

Re: A3s 300/600 sorta weird line
I hope you will expound on your reasoning here a little when you respond.
If you take this line on the flop then I think you must: - be betting the turn if checked to - calling the turn if bet into I assume your reasoning is to let the solid (ie. agressive) player value bet your hand for you when you are ahead and minimize your losses when he has a bigger ace (a not so small amount of the time). ps. I'm trying to more fully understand the play and this is why I am expounding my thoughts. I'm not doing it to tell you how to play. |

Re: A3s 300/600 sorta weird line
that's tommy style and i like it. youre putting in two big bets more on this hand period, unless you let him c/r you on a street and you pay off. but this is not good to do if youll never check behind here with other hands, both of value and complete misses.

Oh, and if you insist on translating £150/300 into some dollar-stakes, it's much closer to $250/500 than $300/600. lars |

"Coolade is a World Series of Poker bracelet holder and a CardPlayer columnist."
is it roy west? i think it must be roy west. "cmon in and have some fried chicken y'all...we're gonna talk about a 50cent-$1 stud hand!" "Oh, and if you insist on translating £150/300 into some dollar-stakes, it's much closer to $250/500 than $300/600." oh well in that case you should bet the flop bk. that changes everything. |

So you were going for the checkraise. Regardless of what hits bet and 3-bet the turn. I think your ahead here.....

However, if you were to take, say, the average exchange rate for this year, it would actually come out to around $275/$550, so rounding to $300/$600 isn't *too* bad. |

Re: A3s 300/600 sorta weird line
Preflop: Button vs small blind confrontations between two solid, aggressive players consists of so much marginal aggression that even at the limits I play (ten times lower), a suited Ace is very good candidate for a cap. I think AK-AJ, ATs, KQs and pairs above sixes should be capped here every time. And other decent hands like baby pairs, suited aces and strong kings (especially suited) should be capped a large portion of the time, somewhere between 40-70%. So preflop is fine.
The flop check is fine too, as I suppose you would be betting a strong Ace here every time. lars |
