Wouldn't this be a classic opportunity to induce a bluff?

This is only a good opportunity to induce a bluff if, a) your opponent is a strong enough player to recognize this as a bluffing opportunity, or b) your opponent bluffs constantly.

Given my (limited) experience with Party 2-4, I wouldn't count on my opponent to be conscious enough to try to induce him to bluff.

[ QUOTE ]
...checking and calling is almost certainly -EV here. Betting may be -EV, but may be less -EV...

[/ QUOTE ]

So if both these options are -EV, why should anybody do either?

So if I understand this correctly, if you have no fear of a raise, you should always bet the river if first to act (or checked to you)?

Well, if you say that checking and calling is -EV and betting is -EV, then your best option would be to check and fold, which would be neutral EV. I'm not saying I support folding in this specific hand, but according to your statement about the EV of the two options mentioned, it would seem you do.

No... you are misunderstanding. It makes me think that you don't understand the decision process here.

When I say -EV, I'm talking only about the bets going in on the river. It has nothing to do with what's in the pot.

It is assumed that you aren't going to check-fold top two on the river.

I understand now. I thought you were saying that checking and calling and betting was -EV in general. My mistake. BTW, I think it's better to bet out here.

That "infininte pot" example makes all your bets relatively free, so I don't think it's a good analogy. I would bet every time in that case.

Plus, there was no re-raising there. Here, the reason you would check would be to prevent being raised by a big bet amount that is not "free".
