Bah! Back in my day we all did 360's and we were grateful for them.

Glad you made it. That brought back memories. I had a similar incident a few years ago where the guy swerved and I hit this chunk of metal or something. It exploded my front tire, which proceeded to come off the wheel and fly OVER my car and land behind me, while I proceeded to spin/skid into the shoulder.

I once saw an 18-wheel gravel truck hit a cow and flip over. It's a good idea not to hit cows.

I have to think that a large part of this was the driver slamming on his brakes before he hit the cow. If he just laid off the gas, and STILL flipped, that's pretty amazing.

you may wanna go get new tires if you locked up the brakes and skidded for any good distance. Driving on tires with flat sopts on them = -EV

They'll make wierd noises whie you're driving if they are flatspotted

I'm always amazed at how many ladders I see in the road. What's with that?

[/ QUOTE ]

A friend of mine just took the motorcycle safety course (in Pennsylvania - he just started grad school at UPenn and wants a bike.) The course was taught mainly by the same people who're in charge of picking your mangled body off the road if you wreck your bike, so a lot of it was "this is stupid and dangerous". Which made it even scarier when their advice on what to do when you saw a 2x4/ladder/etc in the road in front of you: speed up.

I was on a train that hit a cow, obviously the cow was spread all over the front of the train but there was a lot of damage to the front of the train we all had to get off and get the next one cos of the damage.

Tying in with ElD's 'reflections' thread, I had a 21 year old friend who (they think) was looking for a CD while driving outside Atlanta. He crossed the line and hit a pickup head on. Killed him, injured the other driver badly. Be careful out there.

So you were driving way too close to the car in front and exceeding the speed limit? You created this "emergency" yourself. Slow down, and leave plenty of space ahead of you - you should be able to stop comfortably within the space you can already see to be empty. You don't need advanced driving lessons to do this, you need to grow up.
