I almost died today

Driving home I tried to dodge an unidentified object (looked like a picket fence) and spun out. Did a couple of 360's but managed to keep myself on the road. Luckily the cars behind me were able to stop before mangling me to death.

It smelled like burning rubber for the rest of the trip but I got home safe, thank God.

How the hell do you almost hit a picket fense? Were you driving on the sidewalk? Were you drunk?

Uh, so if he almost hit a mattress he'd be driving in someones bedroom?

You should probably think through his post a few times and you'll understand.

Hint: Stay outnof people's yards and you won't have to worry about those fences.

I know its against your instincts but usually its better to just run over what ever it was than try and avoid. I have seen way to many serious accidents from people trying to avoid hitting deer, dogs, boxes, etc; especially in traffic.

If he almost hit a mattress, the most likely explanation would be that a mattress had fallen out of someone's car and into the road. With a picket fence, they aren't pre-assembled. You build it in the person's lawn. Therefore, since nearly the only place in which a fully assembled picket fence would be found in someone's yard, the most logical conclusion would be that he was driving on someone's front lawn.

Now, if he said a fence post, it could be different.

Just outside Badlands Nat'l Park (in South Dakota, for those that don't know), a friend was driving me and another friend. We'd spent the day in the park, and were going back to our house in Wall, and it was full dark by this time. We were doing maybe 70-80.

I was in the passenger seat, and hardly had enough time to register the cow in the road, much less react. The cow was black, the night was black, and I have no idea how it got out of the fenced areas. Luckily, the driver was a bit quicker than I was and slammed on the brakes and swerved. We did a couple 360s before coming to a stop, and how we managed to avoid rolling I'll never know.

Easily one of the most frightening experiences in my life.
