Last trip to LV I got to play a couple of times at those auto shuffler tables. Those things are great! The decks alternate every hand so no one ever requests deck changes and while I was there no one ever asked for a setup. But once I was back at the normal tables it was the same old constant deck and setup change requests. Unless you really suspect markings and altered cards it makes no sense.

The house doesn't like to do new set ups because (a) cards cost money (b) it wastes time when hey could be raking pots. So I've seen them refuse. In the club I play in in NYC, they will never do a new set up unless someone can show them markings on the card. Also, players pay for time, not rake. So the other players don't want to waste time on new set ups either.

when someone requests a "set up" it is basically an annoyance, but one which i can tolerate considering that person "thinks" his luck will change with the deck. I love supersticious players, especially ones with little skill. Also when the house brings in a set up, it ISNT "new" decks, the casinos i play at continually recycle the decks. the biggest aggravation to me is the loser who requests a set up and then plays 3 more hands before picking up and leaving the table. if the guy wants to waste my time at least have the courteous of paying for it!!!

regard,

pauli

In most of the No. California cardrooms a deck needs to be in play for at least one trip around the table before they will change it (unless, of course, a card is damaged or marked).

I saw/heard the opposite on my last trip to LV. Many of the players were questioning whether the automatic shuffler was really shuffling the cards. They were upset because the cards left the sight of the players while in the machine. I couldn't help but smile on the inside.

there's no difference.

both have an equal distinction of being a great waste of time.

the other day this idiot had the floor called because a new dealer put in a new deck and didnt know the 1st deck only had 4 hands off of it. WHO CARES!?!

stop the action for that?

anyways, yes, you can request it at any time. the more you play, the more you'll see how pointless it is. it's one thing if a card is crimped or something, but because someone is running bad and they havent won a pot in 5 hands? yes, these morons do exist. you can only sigh and wait for their chips to go on the road finding solace in your stack.

b

ps...this wasnt meant to sound harsh to you. just my general disdaining opinion of deck changes and set up changes. they oughtta charge some of these idiots for a change in deck or set up. it can get annoying after awhile.

Default Ever tell someone to stop asking for setups?

I agree with all that was said above about asking for deck changes, set-ups, and scrambles being a complete waste of time. The only thing that asking for a set-up does IMO is to tell everyone at the table where the sucker is.

Now to my question: The card room I play in requires the new dealer to countdown the money and the cards, I appreciate the cards being counted so that a potential bad beat jackpot isn't disqualified. I have been to other rooms where the dealers never count the cards and I wonder if it opens up the possiblity of marking cards or missing cards. Back to my question, the new dealer comes in and spends the time to count the deck, then the player asks for a deck change, we play an orbit and then the same player asks for a new set-up, within a few minutes a new dealer comes in and we start over counting the cards. Just a guess but the deck change and set-up probably cost us between 4 and 10 hands. This happened a week or so ago, I already knew this player was an idiot and I was happy to take his money but this was ridiculious so I called the player on it and explained my thoughts on set-ups to him. He was shortstacked and after the re-buys he had already went through I didn't figure him to re-buy much more so I was actaully hoping to piss em off and get rid of him. I have pondered this ever since would you have called him out?
