Default Experience from an underage poker player...

Hello,

I've been playing poker since I turned 17 at the local Indian Casino's here in CA (I'm currently 19). I play at several high profile cardrooms in LA (Bicycle, Commerce, Hollywood Park) and have NEVER been carded once. Trick is to borrow grandpa's white and blue striped Polo Shirt and get some sensible sunglasses. When you walk past the guards, act like you own the place.

Only thing you need to really worry about is hitting the bad beat jackpot, or pissing off another player so much he tells the dealer to card you. In the incredibly unlucky and unlikely event that you do somehow maganage to hit the bad-beat jackpot, be weary. If you hit it, say you left your ID and Social in your car. Walk out, get in, and drive far far away (full-tank of gas would be smart).

I've heard of horror stories of underage kids hitting the jackpot, then after the floorman explains to the table they will not be recieving the jackpot because you are underage, several guys get up and proceed to follow you to your car and beat the mortal crap out of your.

Well on that note, Good Luck!

Ben,

I get carded a lot (except when I play at my normal room). I usually get carded as I enter the casino, sometimes again as I enter the cardroom. Occasionally I have been carded at the table. Once I was at a table for almost three hours, and THEN the floor came over to request my ID.

I do have a young-ish look, but by no means do I look anywhere close to 21.

I actually played a few time at the Taj and the Trop without getting carded when I was 19 and 20. I never got carded (I looked older for my age then), but when I went with some friends who looked under 21 (and some were), I got carded. By then, I had turned 21, so no big deal to me, but they will card you if they suspect it a little.

If you have to drive far to get to a casino, it's probably not worth the risk.

rharless, all they want is your address. Young hot chicks at the card table are rare birds!

Default You\'d better look in your late 20\'s

or you will get carded, I'm in my early 30's and if I am clean shaven I will get carded at local casino's. If you can grow a beard that maybe your best hope.

If we're talking Foxwoods here, I am 3 for 3 of not getting carded. I turn 21 in a month, but I would say I barely pass for 18. I find going in with someone who is clearly of age helps, as opposed to walking in with a bunch of college kids. The closest I came to being carded was some kind older female security guard asking me "You've been carded already, haven't you?" to which I replied a simple "No." Then she grilled me with the follow up question "But you're twenty-one, right?" to which I sneakily replied "Yes."

And I have to say the hour and forty minutes drive from Amherst to Foxwoods is well worth the risk versus the four and a half hour trip to Turning Stone in Verona, NY.

ps. ditto about not ordering booze. The waitresses kept carding 22 year olds at my table for beer.

pps. That kid Daryn is such a fish, you will take all of his money easily in that soft Amherst game.

Its pretty simple, no matter WHY you don't want to be carded, to not be carded. These have been tested with other people, uncluding one guy who's a dead ringer for 14 when cleanshaven and wearing today's style clothing. This is sort of a hobby of mine.

1st rule. Don't shave. I find a 2 day beard makes me look 8-12 years older than I am by most people's estimation. If you still have "young guy" type stubble problems (like its not even), this may not be the best route.

2nd rule. Learn to talk in an a "Adult" voice. I didn't realize how strange it was, but if you have an even tempered, low/calm yet voice, and you talk with a measurable volume, you'll be taken as a professional, who's obviously over the age of majority. There are added benefits talking like this in other aspects of life as well. Don't skirt subjects etcetera, if you have a problem or request make it without an explaination.

3rd Rule. If you're going to order a drink, go for something that's an aquired taste, like Jack on the Rocks, Gin and Tonic (ask if they have Tanqueray before ordering this, and make them use it), or if you have to order a beer, go for a slighly more expensive beer like an German Import (not Heinikein) or mid range domestic. Stay away from "kid" drinks, like Rum and coke, frozen margarita's (On the rocks is okay, especially if they serve a premium with something like Sauza and Grand Mariner), and white russians.

4th Rule: In a resturant, use a credit card. In a liquor store/casino, use cash. Make sure you don't have student ID's visible in your wallet, or any license with a huge "UNDER 21" visible.

5th Rule. If they mark you with a marker (this really goes for nightclubs, more than anything), either grab some lemons from the bar and rub it on the marker mark immeadiately upon entry or (no joke here) pee on your hand, and it will wash off.

I mean business professional, not gambling professional

It's not worth it. I have a friend who got caught underage at a casino and is now banned. I get carded probably half the time I go to my local Card Room and almost all the time going to the Indian Casinos. I usually get carded by the same guys who have been carding me for three years too.
