Well, I don't know if the story is true or not. I certainly wasn't at the table. The story is from pokerwire.com which has the most accurate updates from the world series, so, however ridiculous the story may be, it is coming from a fairly reputable source.

This being said, the author did hear the story from the "Marco" character, who could have been making it up, but the author contends that Marco was telling a true story. I'm sure there is a way to verify it with the people who were at the table (e.g., Cunningham, Tomko).

I assume the "amazing" part is that Cunningham came back to win the tournament. He should buy the drunk guy dinner or something.

Not a bad little story, if true. But that's just me...

The story is true, I was watching the play because my friend Saso was at the table, sitting next to Dewey.

The best part was after they both folded Allen said " It would be great if you were bluffing" and the guy threw his cards over and said I am......... Dewey turned white as a ghost and knocked the water bottle over next to him.

When the 10's hit the board, the guy w/ the pocket pair knocked his chair over and jumped around.

Allen really does owe that guy a drink.

My buddy pulled the same move on a pot with Devilfish and Jeff Rine when he was getting short on chips with about 90 players left and devilfish read him the riot act after the hand played out.

Here is a link to some pictures of the table (taken about 3 hands after the bluff):

anyone who could defend this play in anyway, doesn't understand the philosophy behind such a simple logical situation. if you go all in with nothing on a dry side pot, you will a) get called and be way behind (most important factor), b) not eliminate a player because pushed off something better than your hand but could beat the all in hand, and c) stole a pot from someone else, but had no self interest in the pot yourself (which will make you undoubtly look stupid)

The drunk's move is clearly the type of play you need to make when it's time to get out of the kiddie pool and swim with the sharks.

How the f--k was he table chip leader?
