Actually .5% is too low for a standard BJ game. The lowest as calculated with rules variations from wizardofodds.com in las Vegas is 0.8%. That game is at the Plaza. Rule variations and their % can calculated based on the game you are playing.
A standard 6-8 deck shoe game has a house edge closer to 1.5 - 1.8%

The EV is always going to be - for a basic strategy player. Overall, BJ in Vegas has gone to hell. I know nothing about internet casinos as that is an automatic -EV just to enter them.

these figures are too pessimistic. there are still many casinos on the strip that deal 6D S17 DA2 DAS Sp3 SpA3 LS which has a house edge of around 0.26%. with comps you can play virtually breakeven in the long run. even if you make it 8 decks and take away surrender and hit on soft 17, the vig for perfect basic strat is still below 0.70% (source: www.blackjackinfo.com).

when you compile the margin of profit based on how people ACTUALLY play in las vegas, then the house edge becomes closer to the numbers you indicated, possibly as high up as 3-4%.

but at the same time, there are still some good theoretical games available such as the double deckers at LVC and Plaza (house edge closer to 0.2%, definitely not 0.8%), Suncoast, and everyone's favorite - the Western!. many BJ games at the strip resorts still offer good gambling value as well relative to nearly any other game except live poker.

blackjack at many internet casinos can be +EV once you factor in the deposit bonus and the playthrough wagering requirement. just make sure you read the T&C carefully to make sure the games you play are eligible to qualify for the promotion.

Both the Taj and Borgata give $2/hour at 10-20 and higher. The Borgata comps are much better, in my opinion, as you can just use the card to get food at the snack bar (fruit salad and caesar salad available) or any restaurant. The Borgata food is far more edible. At the Taj, you have to get a comp slip for the mediocre food venues.

Last I was in Vegas, the Luxor gave you a spot in a freeroll for something like 10 hours of play, and held the freerolls 2x week. Typically its just Vegas regulars who show up, chop the prize pool on the spot, and go. A dealer told me these are worth about $220/week for 20 hours of play. Not sure if they are still running the promotion, but its the closest thing to a good poker comp in Vegas.

Actually, it's $25 player share per freeroll. So 50/wk max. It's more like rakeback than anything.

This is true if the casino does not cheat. Since I brought up the topic of internet casinos, I feel obligated to mention that unlike internet poker sites, internet casinos have been known to cheat (e.g., manipulate the deal of cards to increase the house edge of BJ or videopoker games).

Here we go again.

Some internet casinos have been caught cheating (www.casinomeister.com) BUT none of the ones using major software providers. Don't be an idiot, play at casinos using Playtech, Microgaming, Boss Media, or Wagerlogic, and you'll be fine. You should also book a very healthy profit from the bonuses.

I may be jumping to conclusions, but did you know the Taj has a poker snack bar as well?? It took me about 6 months of playing there before I found out, as it is rather well hidden and there are no signs as to how to get to it.
True you have to get a slip printed out, but there are many places you can use it.
