This is from Party 5/10.

I suspect you are playing too high a limit based purely in the hand and discussion afterwards.

If you want to mix it up, raise lighter, don't try and slowplay.

Are you suggesting that I do slowplay or I don't? I didn't slowplay but it sounds like you are suggesting that I should have.

He means that you should have raised preflop.

You said one reason to not raise preflop is that the board can be scary when an A or K comes up. But if you raise preflop your odds of winning only increase because you can push out the Kx and Ax. The flop, turn and river looks ok to me. Greetz...

it is a dreadful play to not raise with that hand on the button.

dont try and justify it, just take the advice people are giving you.

Bing bong! RAISE PREFLOP. What is your rationale for just calling?

The rest is standard the whole way through. Flop raise is a no brainer with 2 spades on the board I think.

Because QQ does not play well with a lot of other players. If a K or A flops, many opponents increases the chance of one of them having flopped top pair. Also, in larger pots an unimproved pair will rarely win.

I also prefer to disguise my hands sometimes by not raising preflop. Combined with the reasons above I believe it is not a bad play to limp with this hand on the button.

So how are you doing at 5/10?

Moozh
Absolutely beautiful post! Just the perfect answer to this guy's failure to understand why he needed to raise PF.

With two spades on the board, getting even one spade to fold is a moral victory.

Huh? With two spades on the flop, I want single [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]s calling as many bets as possible. Why would you want them to fold?

Note: I'm not advocating calling vs. raising here, but your logic is puzzling.

I probably should have been a little clearer. First off, your not going to get anyone with two spades to fold. I like getting as many bets in as possible when they are still calling, and enjoy their calling because if they hit on the turn, you have a strong redraw. In a decent size pot, slowplaying a set like this will give players the odds to draw to hands like bottom pair and a backdoor flush draw. Maybe i've just been runner runnered too many times, but I think failing to protect your hand here is a mistake.
