I've come to assume that if they are going to sell it to you, they'll sell it to you outright. There's no need to come up with some story about how you left your id at some place to do something etc. Yes?

There's always a better chance when you're the only person in the store. When I was in high school, I used to buy cigarettes at this bodega in the bus station I took home from school. Anyway, I tried to buy them in there one day and the woman wouldn't sell them to me because the place was crowded. After that, if I wanted to buy and there were people around, I gave her a library card or something just to make it look like I was giving her ID.

Anyway, yeah, go in when there aren't other people around, because then the store owner doesn't have to worry about getting caught for selling underage.

Oh, and this is gonna sound racist so flame away, but make sure to get it from a clerk who's of a different ethnicity. Like if you're white, try to buy from a middle eastern/asian clerk. It's not because minorities are any less strict about carding, it's because people have more difficulty distinguishing between people of different races, so if you're white, you might be obviously under 21 to another white person, but an asian person might not be able to tell as easily.

And have you ever thought about getting a fake ID?

Yeah. Sometimes I've gone to places where I've bought before and forgotten my fake so I'll make something up. I usually tell them that I didn't bring my wallet, that I only have cash on me, but that I'll remember to bring my ID next time.

Just come to Finland and you wont have any problems with buying beer at age of 16 all by yourself.

Could I get one today? I've avoided it because I hear of consequences of being caught with one in a casino, but I guess those consequences don't apply to a "bodega", so yeah I need to get one.

get one that has a little disclaimer on the back that says something like "this a novelty item" or something like that. Its usually really small, and you get in a lot less trouble if you get caught.

I'm 18, but 2 people who have recently asked me didn't believe I was only 18 so I'm pretty sure I look a little older.

As a brit I always find it ironic that in the US there is the right to carry firearms, the death penalty; yet 20 years old's cant legally buy a beer.
