I don'tagree with that at all. You can take shots at a game with 300bb easy. Say youve got $6000, play the 10/20, if you lose half of it you can go back down to the 5/10 and further down if need be. By waiting for 600bbs you may be wasting a lot of time at a lower limit when you've got the ability to move up. The great thing about online is you can push a relatively small bankroll far, through mulittabling and being prepared to move down if need be.

Sorry, but this logic is flat out wrong. You can easily drop 3k in two days playing 10-20, and it's much eaiser if you don't already have the skills to consistently beat the game. I started with $200 playing $10 SNG's last june and was playing 15-30 by february. That's fast enough, and i have always been conservative with bankroll management. I'd like some other players to back me up here, anyone else think it's sound advice to move up limits with that tight a BR?

not above 3/6, imo.

I started playing in the nanos (5c/10c) in august from there I learnt how to play, read lots of books.

By the time I got to PartyPoker 50c/$1 games I already knew all the basic concepts.

From there 1-2 tabled concentrated on each decision I was making.

I moved up when I had 300BB and a high winrate regardless of hands.

I played the $1/$2 6max as the full games at that level really doesnt develop your game as much.

Moved to $2/$4 for a very short time as I ran very hot.

On to $3/$6, I found much tougher, still managed to move up with a winrate of 3bb/100 I think I had about 350BB for 5/10.

Went to 5/10 6max had a good early run until variance kicked in I made a premature move to 10/20 and went back down. I think I played 30k hands here and moved up to $10/$20 when I was about 2.5bb/100 for the second time had about 600BB.

$10/$20 6max beat it for just over 2bb/100 and moved up to 15/30 with around 600BB.

My advice would be to read a lot of books (20+). Get involved in the forums, but dont just take advice blindly you have to think about things.

Play very few tables with good table selection skills. Only play more than 2 if there are really bad players who practically give money away.

The only way you get good is through hard work.

You are my hero. I'm too lazy to move up, grinding 4-tabling at 2/4 because the competition is a joke

I dont think you need to wait for 600BB at low limits where your expected winrate is very high making it highly unlikely that you have large downswings.

When you move up to higher limits your expected winrate lowers, the psychological impact of the $$$ starts to mean something also, so obviously you want a higher BR.

If you play SH you also need a higher BR.

I dont think someone moving from 2/4 to 3/6 needs a 600BB BR. They are either good enough or not.

I think taking shots at higher limits is a very good strategy IFF you don't depend on your poker money for your livelyhood. It's a good part of how guyontilt and I moved up as fast as we did. It does take the discipline to move down (I was up to 2900 at one point and pissed it down to 700 playing 3/6 and sng's. Went back to .5/1 to regroup, played there for a week or 3 (i can't remember), posted a lot of hands on 2+2 and read, took another shot at 2/4 with 100 I made at .5/1, lost it, dropped back, made another 100, went to 2/4 and never looked back.

Thanks for mentioning that. I had made 130 this weekend playing 1/2 HE and shorthanded O8, so I took a shot at 2/4 with $200 spread across two tables.

Made $110. Huzzah.
