Next time you think the rake is too high think about all the people who pull this and scam $1000 or charge back. There is much more cost to running an online poker room then just the support and software cost. A certain % (and I dont what) gets charged back and becomes uncollectable. I would imagine this number would be much higher for casinos.

How old are you, seriously?

Ever heard of a credit rating?

You can probably stiff them for the money but good luck getting credit down the road unless you are already established, and have credit and don't need more.

Party poker has a group of Indian thugs that will hunt you down and rough you up if you're lucky, or kill you if you're not so lucky. Take your chances.

I actually met this kid at a home game that was sort of bragging about ripping off party in this sort of way. Apparently after phone calls for a few months, they stopped hassling him. However, regardless of whether you can get away with it one time, this is a dumb thing to do since it can potentially [censored] you over a lot.

I doubt that they would hire a collection agency since technically online poker is illegal in the U.S. But you have most likely committed a felony of bank fraud which you can do time for. I know a girl who wrote bad checks totally not more than your $1,000 and she got two years. Personally, I hope you get charged and convicted.

This is debatable.

I don't see how there is anything legally binding to repay this debt or any real likelyhood that his credit rating would be adversely affected.

Is it wrong?...Maybe, but is taking money from others in poker wrong?...maybe

And maybe he should avoid this behavior if he is playing for a living, as he is potentially burning his own money tree. But it's probably more of a hobby or an addiction.

Should we feel bitter about folks doing this? Maybe...I'm not worried. For one, this has nothing to do with higher rakes. It's likely the cashier system "Paypro" that is owed the money and not party poker. They could of course be the same entity for all I know, I don't pay attention.

It's not like Party HAS to open up this ability to be scammed. Any place that allows these advance check methods expects this to happen on occasion and it does. I've seen similar claims of folks having done the same to Neteller. If this was ever too big of a problem, no worries...no more insta-checks. Nuf' said! Not the most popular deposit method anyhow.

And all of you seem to forget. We're making a living off of gamblers here...as are all the good folks at PartyPoker. Can't blame a gambler for being a gambler. They are our friends. As a matter of fact, Party isn't exactly morally right to allow such deposit methods anyhow. But they want someone on tilt to continue contributing rather than wait 2-3 days for the check to clear and calming down. But I'm glad it's there, because I'm glad the gamblers are there. Morals are a Judeo-Christian creation, hence rarely a worry of mine. If I was worried about such trivial notions, I'd be working 9-5 somewhere where I felt like I was contributing to society in a good touchy-feely kind of way.

Oh, well I'm ranting, but just because I think all you "righteous" poker players are just so darn silly.

Summation: Nothing bad will happen to you or me or PartyPoker because of these events.

Worse case scenario: Elimination of these insta-checks or a fee like Neteller charges.

If he gets away with this: good for him, gotta fend for yourself in this life...forget the big picture, it's you, you, you, and those you genuinely care about.

Rumor has it that they are the same group of thugs hired in Octopussy.
