Re: Paradise 20/40 short
As I assume for any name I don't know on this site, I thought you were the target and was a bit upset by your run of cards (probably far less than UTG), only to conclude that you could play. This four handed game was fun.
Glad to put a name(?) on a pseudo. Seeya |

Re: Paradise 20/40 short
Yuck....guess we both know who we are now. This wasn't what I intended, but I was always afraid of this happening. Guess this will keep me from posting strategy advices.
You have a good game btw. Regards |

Re: Paradise 20/40 short
Here's why:
Ikke, I like your thinking. You put many of the mid-limit posters to shame. A bad player about is also capable of raising the turn with nothing though..(In fact at this level most of the BAD players are famaliar with the RAISE-turn/check if dont improve play) A good and bad player both might try to raise the flop with nothing in their state of mind (no pair no draw). Also a good or bad player would probably slow play the flop if they had a flush. So I think a good case of playing the hand as you describe can be made for a default play with this board (K high or A high/rags)... |

Re: Paradise 20/40 short
"A bad player about is also capable of raising the
turn with nothing though..(In fact at this level most of the BAD players are famaliar with the RAISE-turn/check if dont improve play)" True, but a bad player is IMO more likely to raise the turn even if I 3-bet the flop, while a good player will use the information in a proper way, so that chances of a turn raise go down if I 3-bet the flop. "A good and bad player both might try to raise the flop with nothing in their state of mind (no pair no draw)." I agree. "Also a good or bad player would probably slow play the flop if they had a flush. " I don't agree. At least not at the Paradise games. Ofcourse this is player dependend, but there so much aggression there, that there's also merit in playing your big hands very fast. A lot of players do that, and, against an (very) aggressive opponent, I would probably too. This is a very attractive board to play fast IMO, because it's also a board where people will play draws hard and protect vulnerable hands aggressively. "So I think a good case of playing the hand as you describe can be made for a default play with this board (K high or A high/rags)... " I'm still not sure about that. Yes, a case can be made, but I wonder if making the play a default play is optimal. Regards |

BTW
Care to comment on the first J9s hand in my post "For JV (and others)"? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Re: BTW
Against a typical decent agressive player who doesn't think much(translate : who won't care much about what you could call on the flop and who will make the automatic river bet with no hand because he has pot "odds"), your play would be mine.
Pros : The possibility of him catching a pair on the river he would call with or bet plus the times he would bluff bet on the river (again assuming they are substantial) Cons : free card(but most of the time this free card is very innocent), and the case he has a smaller pocket pair he would call with on the turn and the river. Cons are obviously vastly outweighed. Between two thoughtful players, the play of the hand involves many, many parameters and the whole balance scheme of each player must be taken into account, as well as the immediate history of the confrontation. And the play becomes really complex on the flop and on the turn and on the river. |
