Re: David\'s TV comment....Who\' are the other 4 contenders please?
Thanks guys for the input...I was hoping David would contribute since it was he that made the statement on national TV. I didn't mean to put him into a tough spot. If I did, sorry David, just thought it was a REALLY interesting topic. I think a TV Cash, round robin could be really interesting (done right) AND give credit to the player that can REALLY play the game of poker.
I'd immediatly pick, Chip, Ivey, Greenstein...possibly Linda Johnson (very possibly), maybe Chan. Lotta fine all around players out there, c'mon David Bobby Baldwin in his earlier days..also Moss. |

How good is Lyle Berman, Chau Giang, Ted Forrest.....
Berman and Giang must be damn good to play ing the 4-8K mixed game. Bobby Baldwin could be up there with 1-2 yrs of full time play...from what ive read he was WELL WELL respected when he was gambling not running billionaire dollar properties. |

There really should be a HORSE event that is televised.

Re: David\'s TV comment....Who\' are the other 4 contenders please?
I think it should be stated for the record on this thread that David Sklansky was probably not thinking of four specific names, merely saying that he considers his skills to be such that there are only a few players capable of playing at that all-around level, not necessarily that he was thinking of players who were exactly first through fifth. Or that, for business reasons, it would be wise to say something to that effect while he's got TV time.

Re: David\'s TV comment....Who\' are the other 4 contenders please?
I agree about Lyle Berman, don't know Giang. Ted Forrest also. I would think Howard L. plays other games well. What about the "Devilfish"...@ 3 years ago I was going to play him PL Omaha8 head up until HE told me he was the best in the world (he is), I picked a better spot lol. In his day, Baldwin was one of the finest all around players alive, limit (very high) and no limit...he was a fierce duece to seven player. He should have likely won the NL WSOP main event _twice_..he took 2 44-1 shot (a queen both hands) beats near the end that knocked him out. I forget the year. I think Doyle is more of a specialist in no limit but I wonder about his son, Tod, he wrote the stud section in his dad's latest super system book. I thought it was quite good. Your probably right about David just generalizing on TV and maybe getting some air time, but I feel he IS one of the best on the planet and would like him only to throw out a few names of those he thinks would be in contention or that could give him a run for the best "All Around Poker Player in the World". Again, DONE CORRECTLY, it could be a facsinating event IMHO. And for those of you that knew her when she played regularly, Linda Johnson (yes, the WPT's Linda and ex Card Player's owner) was a tremendous all around player (winning the WSOP Razz World Championship) I had the pleasure to watch her play off and on for years, a winning player at All games, I'd love to see her included in a Championship of this kind. Finally, yes, H.O.R.S.E. could be a great format. Thanks again for the posts..Rianna C'mon David, join in |
