With just 2 cold-callers, I would just call.
With 4 or more cold-callers, a raise could be profitable even if you knew that the raiser likely had a big pair, because of pot equity. You might find this interesting |

If your read of UTG+1 is right, you're going to end up paying 4 bets to play a hand that is likely drawing to 3 (or less) outs.
If there weren't so many people in the pot, folding would be my first choice. Call and pray for spades. |

Thanks for the link, very interesting. SSH basically advises the same thing, jam the pot when you've got enough cold callers. When you do have best hand, you get rich. When you have 2nd best, the fish still make it profitable.
I imagine at higher levels (I'm at 2/4 or 3/6) that changes as there aren't enough fish. |

Right, 2/4 is very loose, 3/6 somewhat less, but still loose. I've observed a couple 10/20 tables and 15/30 tables and you just don't ever have enough callers preflop to jam the pot against someone who's a 2% preflop raiser. Though I suppose maybe there aren't many folks that only raise 2% at that level either .

The average player raises about 10% of the time. |
