Re: Drowning in a sea of doubt; strong swimmers needed.
Thanks for the replies. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for sympathy--I never dreamed I'd make money playing cards. I just wanted to know how common losing streaks over 5,000 hands were among players better than me. From what you all have said, I guess they're very common.
I play part-time (about 6-10K hands/month), so 5K seems like an eternity sometimes. I'm trying to ballpark how many months on average I can expect to finish up, and how many down. Your advice has helped. |

Re: Drowning in a sea of doubt; strong swimmers needed.
Every time I read these variance posts it makes me wonder. Do you guys who pay for a living go without making anything some months? Is this common? (averaged out by some really good months) My variance is just ridiculous every day, yesterday I was up $160, today I lost $170 (I fought the last few hours trying to get back to breakeven) I know this is partly due to tilt because I only play my A game when I'm ahead, but I wonder how much if it is "regular" variance.

Re: Drowning in a sea of doubt; strong swimmers needed.
In the past 37 days I experienced a 333 BB upswing followed by a 433 BB downswing playing 30/60 shorthanded (i'll admit i have poor bank management and could havee greatly minimized my losses). Like others have said, if you're a winning player, all you can do is think long run and know that in the end you'll come out on top.
