I got one. Most games by a franchise without running a kickoff back for a touchdown.

[/ QUOTE ]

How about most games by a franchise without having a pitcher throw a no-hitter? Mets.

[/ QUOTE ] Isn't this record broken 162+ times a year?

Henderson's steals in a season record looks pretty untouchable as this year's league leader only had 53% of Rickey's 130 steals in 1982

[/ QUOTE ]

Good point. Or how about Rickey's career steal record? I remember having a conversation this summer about how players in general don't seem to be stealing bases as much in the last several seasons. Unless this trend reverses itself, his record could be around for a long long while.

[/ QUOTE ] This is because the game is so offensive now that the risk/reward formula of stealing a base vs getting thrown out and losing an at bat where a hr could be hit has been re calculated.

Tiger Woods winning the US Open, British Open, PGA Championship, and Masters consecutively

'and it's not even close'

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this has been done before.

[/ QUOTE ]

Really? Who do you think did it? Hogan came the closest, Bobby Jones won the US Open, US Amatuer, British Open and British Amatuer all in the same season, so you must be referring to this; the Masters Tourney was created by Bobby Jones in his later years, so he never had the chance to play the event in his prime. Likely the competition in the 1900's Jones faced wasn't up to the level of your avg. PGA tour pro, but balance that with the travel arrangments Jones endured (had to sail to England for the British Events) and you have another accomplishment that should probably be included in this discussion at a minimum.

Other players have won all four of the Events over their careers, but none have had all titles at the same time.

No one has ever had the US Open Trophy, the Claret Jug, the Wanamaker trophy, and a Green Jacket all at the same time, and no one ever will again. (Even Tiger)

When it comes to baseball, some records come to mind. The single season and career records of wins, innings, and ERA will likely never be beaten. Single season strikeouts, as well.

Dimaggio's 56-game hit streak will likely never be beaten, not just because Joe was an amazing hitter, but because it's such a fluke to get your hits to fall in that manner. It's an amazing statistical anomaly.

The batting average records will be broken, though it might be a while. The game will have to swing the way of the golden age (between the wars) again, but .438 isn't unbeatable or anything. A fluke will come along and take it. The triples record might fall, etc. It only takes a changing of conditions.

you have to think about how the game evolves, just because baseball is in a "juiced" era doesnt mean it wont change back into the "dead ball" era. its cyclical, about every 10-20 years the game starts to change...this time it will become less juiced because steroids wont be as prevelent and the game will become more tactical instead of powerful. ricky stole the majority of his bases in the eighties when league leading homerun totals were 27, it wasnt exactly base to base waiting for that big homerun. they were bunting, hitting and running and stealing bases for the edge.
when talking about records that wont be broken you need to think about if they would be broken if the game were to ever be played like that again, i.e., 56 game hitting streak--too many variables with that record which IMO makes it the toughest baseball record to break such as luck (requires a ton) and pressure (media hype made roger maris' hair fall out when trying to break ruth's record, imagine the pressure now-a-days). think about it...these last 8 or so years have been the most offensive years ever with the league batting avg. being higher than ever and nobody came close, i think the longest streak in these years has been barely over 30 games.
ricky henderson's record could very well be broken, maybe not now but eventually.

I can almost guarantee that one will be broken the first game of next season by the Bucs. Then it will broken again the next game, then again the next...

Anybody (even Zamboni) can score 215 points, when you can play with Jari Kurri
