Haha... still no bids as of now. Looks like Dutch is gonna have to pay for this tourney himself.

This quote is good too. "I will say that I'm definitely known for getting more than my fair share of television coverage."

He's already sold 6% of himself. Not a bad start if you ask me. eBay might be the way to go for this!

If he manages to win some money for his backers (and pays up), I suspect it will be easier for him to get backers for future events.

Wow man, no way? Way? Seriously? Damn man, that's a genius statement! Wait, I've got one too:

"If he manages to win some money and screws his backers, I believe he'll have a harder time in the future getting people to back him"

Woah, it's like we're long-lost brothers or something!

Phil Hellmuth....

Where is my prize???

[/ QUOTE ]

It would really surprise me if Hellmuth isn't staked from time to time.

I believe that Stu Unger did this (sell more than 100% of himself and then tank) during his less respectable times.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if that's true, but I do know he won 1 out of 3 tournaments he entered that had a 5k or higher buy-in.

I thought I was the only one having trouble coming up with the 10K buy-in. lol

Dutch is spending too much time around Scott Fischman.

I would challenge you to find one who pays his own way to each and every tournament he plays in.

[/ QUOTE ]

On a mostly related note, I remember Daniel Negreanu once said Chris Ferguson played tournaments for a living with his own money. He also said that Chris was the ONLY player he knew for which this was true.

Okay, I just found Negreanu's actual comment on rgp:

[ QUOTE ]
I can name ONLY ONE player who plays tournament poker exclusively with his own money and survives: Chris Ferguson. ALL of the eithers are either:

A) Broke
B) Being Staked
C) Are independantly wealthy
D) Also are successful cash game players

[/ QUOTE ]

This doesn't mean that no cash game players pay their own way, but it does mean that Jesus is the only one he knows who is actually making a living on the tournament trail. Shows how tough it is.
