Re: Any Greektown regulars?
"25 BBs is pretty standard. If you need more, you may want to examine your game."
Just because it is standard doesn't mean it won't be a frequent occurrence to be down more than 25 BBs. I mean, once you get down 15 BBs in this situation you're bringing more money to the table. This may be enough to buy-in for but you better have some backup. -Michael |

[/ QUOTE ] It will happen, sure. But frequently? I dunno about all that. Depends on your definition of the term. For me, that's been three times in the last year. As far as putting more money on the table, that's not something you should get in the habit of doing. If you burn through more than 15 BBs over several hours because of cold cards, that's one thing, and I've been there and have added more money to the table and swung back up as a result. However, if you get that low and take an honest look at your game and your emotions and find yourself not at your best, adding more money to the table is the worst thing you can do. That's the stuff of addicts. Regards, Noal |

I'm quasi-regular. I try to get out there every other Saturday, for about 10-12 hours.

I mean, yeah, if someone is bothered by losing money and starts to play poorly because of it he should leave. But if you can stomach those inevitable sick sessions and play through them, why shouldn't you? -Michael |

But if you can stomach those inevitable sick sessions and play through them, why shouldn't you? [/ QUOTE ] I think you're missing my point. If you're losing money and you realize that it's because you're in over your head, you're not playing your best game, your emotional state is interfering with your judgement or whatever, than you should go take a break or call it a night. If it's just a really long streak of bad cards and correctly played hands just not panning out, taking a short break and reloading isn't a bad idea. Like I said in another thread, I made the walk to the ATM once (and once only) in the last two years, and it was to a positive result. FWIW, it was the 2nd time I had played $10-20 ever and the comeback gave me confidence that I could play at that level. Needless to say, I have played down to the felt before and decided that walking away was the best thing to do. More often than not, that's going to be the case. To address that other point you brought up, if losing the money that you put on the table upsets you, it's likely you shouldn't put it on the table in the first place. Case in point, I won't play the NL tables because putting $2K+ on a table and losing it all would be very upsetting to me, whereas losing $500 would only irritate me. Regards, Noal |

Re: Any Greektown regulars?
Hey,
I'm turning into a regular at the NL game at greektown, I'll play 5/10 while I wait for a seat...my friends are trying to get me to play the 10/20 at greektown, but the 5/10 is so soft that I think I can make more an hour playing there...for those who play the 5/10, does ~20+/hr sound right? I don't like playing at MCC cause the room is so small and it's always the same players, at least for the NL game...but I might start branching out next semester... |

Re: Any Greektown regulars?
I have been able to sustain a win rate of +1.4BB/hr in the $5-$10 at Greektown over the last 200 hours of play. It seems like I could ramp it up higher, but variation always sends me back to studying how to play in such a looooose game. Like you, I find MCC uncomfortable.

Re: Any Greektown regulars?
To Dharzak:
Last night I was in a 5-10 game where the board was something like 285 and I had pocket 8's. I check from SB and 8 others check to the button who bets ("perfect just what I wanted") I say to myself, I raise and everyone calls. Turn is a K and I check again this time it gets checked to the CO who bets, button calls and I raise this time 3 people call 2 BB's cold. I'm thinking "What the f*ck could these monkies possibly have?" But that is impossible to ascertain. Anyway, I end up dragging a massive pot (Someone showed two pair and bitched I didn't see the other rags.) The hand before this one though there was 7 limpers to me on the button I call with A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Flop comes Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] The flop is rammed and jammed and the turn is the K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I've got the nut flush and these monkies are raising and re raising with their jank and I'm just calling trying to get as many overcallers as possible (the guy's to my right kept raising) and the river brings the Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] pairing the board and putting a 4 flush on board. It gets bet and raised to me and I do a crying call (they could be raising with a smaller flush or even trips in this game) and my buddy to my left turns over pocket 9's for the full boat. It was the biggest 5-10 pot I have ever seen (literally) In games with this kind of volatility it is very easy to lose 25 BB's in less than an hour. I ended up making 31 BB's that night, but I couldn't stop thinking about that 30 BB pot that I had locked down on the turn. |

It's the volatility that $5-10 games are usually guilty of that sent me off to $10-20. There's still a few bozos, but the overall skill and swings aren't nearly as drastic as the $5-10 tables. Re: Any Greektown regulars?
You should have increased your volatility by raising preflop both hands.
