Re: How do you maintain focus at the B&M?
Not dorky at all. I think that's an excellent idea, and one I've practiced occasionally. A good way to identify a player who is not quite drawing to correct odds, who otherwise may not be displaying some of the more blatant characteristics of a lousy player.

Good post! A couple other points...
Great Post! I did that for a long time before it became second nature. It's a lot more fun to look around at the cocktail waitress when your not in a hand for sure but if you want to be at the top of your game.... Pay attention. Watch the other players. Pick up tells. COUNT THE POT AND FIGURE POT ODDS. Imagine you hold XX and figure out if a call is to your advantage or you should fold. Internet poker is very new. Live poker has been around for many years and in my opinon is how poker should be played. The fun of playing in a cardroom IS all the exitement around you. Unlike on-line poker where you can turn off the tv, close the door, put your feet up, and relax, a B&M cardroom is the opposite. In both you have to play your best and maintain focus. In both you also need a break. If you feel yourself mentaly wandering from the game get up and take a walk, go to the restroom, get a bite to eat, walk around the casino. When you feel refreshed again go back to the game and focus. If your unable to focus go home and try again tomorrow! The casino never closes my friend. Good luck making the transition. Your well on your way.

Re: How do you maintain focus at the B&M?
I start talking to the people on either side of me. That often results in at least two people at the table who will softplay me. I guess that may work better for girls than guys.

[/ QUOTE ] Not to detract from your charms, but you'd be surprised how often that works, regardless of gender. One of the dealers at MCC said that abut 30% of the time, it ends up being one end of the table against the other. Regards, Noal |
