I've never been compelled to figure out the confidence intervals for ITM% for the PP SNGs. Ask Eastbay or AleoMagus, they probably know the answer. In fact, I'm certain Aleo knows.

But you definitely want this number to be higher, and 150 SNGs is probably enough to suspect that you are not a 40%+ ITM player. So I'd start looking for reasons why. The most likely (common) reason for a good, but not great, SNG player to have a low ITM% is that they are losing chips too often in the early stages and having to convert to short-stack poker a little earlier than they would want.

Here's a diagnostic quiz for you:

1. How do you play A-Jo UTG in level 1?
2. How do you play A-10s from the BB when the cut-off open-raises 3xBB in level 2 and it's folded to you?
3. How do you play pocket 6's from the cut-off with 2 limpers in level 3?

Irieguy

PS: Quiz key- 1. fold 2. fold 3. fold
PPS: 90% of the players who answered correctly, fail to play that way all of the time. And these are NOT situations where you should be looking to "vary your play."

i would cut back to 2 tables and try to concentrate more on the players your playing against - at least I have trouble with more than 2 tables. try to focus on what hands they have , etc even when out of your hand. Try not to become impatient

Irieguy, thanks for your extremely helpful posts. I agree with you that I don't "feel" like a 40%+ ITM $30 player while four tabling.

I would love to go over my hand histories, but I switched to Eurobet just after the "slide" started and they do not send tournaments summaries to your email address...so no ptracker convenience as of yet.

I definetly have leaks in my game which I've just recently become pseudo-aware of - none are as severe as playing AJ UTG etc. but they lie primarily in my early position play (limping with too many low pp's and getting raised at aggressive tables), and post flop play. Also when 7-4 handed I am re-evaluating my push standards as $30 players are in my experience much looser in the blinds than at the $20's ironically.

I do not entirely rule out a significant portion of my poor results on running badly though, although it is so hard to quantify the "luck" of running into premium hands during the bubble or failing to draw out enough in the 60/40 confrontations.

Thanks for the advice and I'll keep working at it.

Ironically, this is not ironic. Can you see why?

This depends greatly on my stack size at the time. Perhaps this is a leak in my game, but I always felt 66 very playable in level 3 for a limp.

Default 38% ITM

[ QUOTE ]
If you are making good decisions and your ITM% is above 38%, then you're fine. But don't concern yourself with your ROI for about a thousand more SNGs.

[/ QUOTE ]
Is there something magical about 38%? Just wondering.

Ooops, I thought limping with small pocket pairs was standard from any position at lvl 3 (if you aren't shortstacked).

What do you limp with from
EP?
MP?
LP?
With a stack of 750 and one limper in front of you.
