Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
[ QUOTE ]
i started with $100, doubled it, pocketed the original $100, then used the won $100 to make over a grand...to me, that is not bad. [/ QUOTE ] But it doesn't mean you're a good player, I am not saying you can't be but the stats you have don't mean all that much. |

You'll find $3/$6 much harder than $2/$4 so dont skip levels.

Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
You could also try to play 2/4 at UB or pokerstars. The games are tighter and more aggresive, which may help to prepare for moving to 5/10 with a lot less cost to your bankroll.

Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
After 4k hands at 2/4 I was up a grand. 12k hands later, I'm still at a grand. My WR after 4k was 6BB, now it's at 1.3 overall.
You need more hands. |

Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
I've made the similiar jump from multi-tabling 2/4 and 3/6 to multi-tabling 3/6 and 5/10. The swings are larger and an adequate bankroll is necessary, $3000 at a minimum (I made the jump up with about $2500, but had my 3/6 mixed in as well so I left it was O.K... fortunately the wild swings I've had have been mostly upswings though I realize they aren't sustainable).
That being said, 5/10 is a much tighter and much more aggressive game. You have to be regularly stealing blinds, and then defending your steal from the blinds trying to steal back You need to learn to bluff, but not just randomly, doing so by thinking about what range of cards your opponent has and realizing what he will fold. And on top of this, you still need to know when to drop the aggression and let your hand go. It is a very different game from what I'm used to, but hopefully I continue to have success at it and learn in the process. I also agree with the other posters, that perhaps you aren't ready skill-wise for 5/10 and you definitely aren't ready bankroll wise. Hell, you said you started 2/4 with $100? That's insane... stick to the 300BB rule and move up to $3/6 when you have another $200 in your roll. |
