move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
I play fairly profitable poker at the 2/4 level by playing high quality hands, high pairs and AK AQ, hands like that. I am fairly tight and fairly aggresive, and it has done well at that level. I also read the board well, and notice betting patterns from time to time. When I move to 5/10, this doesnt seem to work. What are the big differences between the two levels. Should I play more drawing hands at 5/10? Any input would be great. TY.

Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
Like yourself, I have much experience at 2/4, and am making the move up in stakes. However, I am putting the time in at 3/6, instead of skipping it altogether. I'm guessing you will get similar advice from others shortly...

Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
I've never played 5/10, but I have a good friend who 7 tables it, so I think my info is fairly valid (though not as good as those who play it regularly).
5/10 is much more aggressive than 2/4. It is also tighter, and a much tougher game to beat. You need to include more detail to diagnose the problem with your game. I can't say for sure, but you should definitely post hands from both 2/4 and 5/10 so you can get specific feedback, because your post was too general for any substantial advice to be given on my part. |

Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
it doesn't soundlike you have a grasp of all the concepts necessary to beat the game. the difference between party 2/4 and 5/10 is like night and day. you should probably try to play 3/6. 5/10 kicked my ass the first time I tried to play it, and I dropped back down for a while.

that is what i have done. i have done okay at 3/6 as well. i have been playing a mini blind 4/8 game too and that is very nice. 5/10 though is a beast to me right now.

Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
it's a different game. player reads, stealing the blinds, stealing pots, hand reading, and headsup strategy are really important there. at 3/6 and 2/4 these aren't as necessary. getting away from hands is also more important since the pots are smaller relative to the big bet. in huge pots you can afford to call down since you may only have to be good 3 or 4% of the time. I've played about 10k hands there in my second try and I'm still making adjustments

Re: move from 2/4 to 5/10??? any help
fyi, I wouldn't recommend playing that game without 400 BB. in under 10,000 hands, I've had upswings of 110 and 125 BB and a 125 BB downswing
