Even if the game is capped at 2/4, if they are not charging rake, then the game will surely be profitable. Granted you have your dealer toke, but that still works out to be less than a Party Poker rate.

My guess is that if they cannot charge a rake they may do something like 'only $50 entry fee to play all you want' (which would still be a bargain methinks).

Not nearly profitable enough to draw me away from the games online despite the fact that I would much rather play live.

From the casino's standpoint, how many people do you think walk in there with 5k in their pocket? Probably not too many.

If they had constant 20/40 game going, probably quite a few.

How many people do you think walk in there with 10K, 20K or more in their pocket? If they had a regular/semi-regular high limit game, they'd get a few of them too.

Some of the higher limit poker players are going to spend money at the casino be it in the pit games, buying expensive dinners, or whatever. A lot of the "fish" in the higher games can often be found playing black/purple chip blackjack when they are away from the poker table. Having a B+M poker room that will draw from a pretty wide area, and banning higher limit games would be very stupid from a business perspective. It's not like the tough players around here are going to bust the entire poker-playing population of the American Southeast. There's plenty of money to go around, and there is no risk of the room putting themselves out of business by spreading higher limits. If there's a demand, why put some artificial barrier on the supply. Is a 100/200 game inherently more "evil" than a 3/6 game?

I just hope the people in charge over there realize that they have to spend money to make money, and grease whatever wheels are necessary among the state-level politicians so that they can operate without substantial restrictions.

You have no idea how much this casino sucks. Everything is video type games.. Video black jack, slots, etc.. There aren't any real table games. The place sucks.

Which is why I'd be willing to bet the poker room is going to suck too. With an outfit like Harrah's involved here, I'm surprised they didn't/don't hire a high powered lobbyist and donate enough to the politicians to loosen up whatever silly restrictions have been placed on them.

The cost of this would be a drop in the bucket compared to what they'd make (and the state would get a huge amount of tax revenue too).

With casinos being so rare in this region, if they set up something like Foxwoods, they'd make an absolute killing (as would I ).

I called Harrah's last week to ask about the poker room. It was scheduled to open the very beginning of Jan, but was delayed slightly so now they're saying it'll be the second week of January. 24 tables, including Hold em, Omaha and stud. No info on limits yet. They will have tournaments. They said info on limits would probably be available next month.

That will be great!

My son plays baseball at The Citadel...Western Carolina is just a stone's throw away from Harrah's...

We go up and take at least two of three from the Catamounts and play a little poker...has the makings of a great weekend!

Profitibility, I agree completely, however this will make me a lot more likely to go up for the weekend with the wife, rather than go to Savannah or someplace else relatively equidistant.
