Haven't heard anything, but very interested if and when it happens. What was you source?

I'd be interested if they did. That drive would be much shorter than the trip to AC, and they would have a better fish/shark ratio. However, I imagine they would charge a larger-than-normal rake.

Rumor has it (rumor = I read this someplace and forget where it was) that it will be capped at 2/4 or 3/6 tables. I also heard it would be open in January, but was then delayed a few weeks for some reason. Look for it in (I'm guessing) spring.

I know they're kind of weird about gambling down here, but is there any chance they'll be able to run like a real cardroom (i.e. list + table + dealer = game; no artificial restrictions/limits)? I'm pretty sure they'd have an adequate base for regular (constant) 15/30 or 20/40 games and at least a semi-regular high limit game with nothing between AC and Tunica for this area of the country. |

Re: Poker at Harrahs in Cherokee, NC??
I called Harrah's last week to ask about the poker room. It was scheduled to open the very beginning of Jan, but was delayed slightly so now they're saying it'll be the second week of January. 24 tables, including Hold em, Omaha and stud. No info on limits yet. They will have tournaments. They said info on limits would probably be available next month.

Re: Poker at Harrahs in Cherokee, NC??
I read this post and had, like, a Homer Simpson moment. Call Harrahs directly? D'oh! So, since it had been a week, I thought, "Why not me?." So I did. I got essentially the same info, so that's good. The only added piece I got was that Harrahs is in the midst of discussions with the State Gaming Commission about the limits, which is why they are not known as of yet. Only 2 more months and my travel time is cut in half!

Re: Poker at Harrahs in Cherokee, NC??
Harrahs is in the midst of discussions with the State Gaming Commission about the limits
Why does the State get to dictate (or even have a say in) limits, if it's on an Indian Reservation? Is there any chance whatsoever of a set-up where they'll spread any game there is sufficient interest for? If there's a list for a 20/40 game and an available table and dealer, then call the list...If there's a list for a 75/150 game and an available table and dealer, then call the list. Something tells me if the state has to agree to/approve the limits, the games will probably be capped at low limit or maybe 10/20 tops. I hope the casino realizes how much extra money can be made by having a regular poker room and pad whose ever pockets need padding in order to get it done. Higher limit games bring a lot of loose cash to the casino. |
