Very nice pre-flop decision -- there is a continuum of aggro where it becomes proper at some point to re-raise pre-flop given these stack sizes, but it sounds like he is well past that point (straight implied odds vs. reverse implied odds decision). Even though I like the way you played the hand, I'm hating his river bet if I'm you and making a crying call praying to see AK.

Blake you described the villian in your hand but what was your image leading up to this hand? Have you thought about reraising preflop to 1500 and planing to push on almost any flop. If not you could have check-raised the flop to somewhere between 1500-2000 or even going allin.

I like some of the responses. Sorry about not including more info in the first post.
Anyway, I considered reraising preflop, but he'll either slowdown alot or fold outright if I show stregnth. I had tried to steal his blinds earlier and he made a play back and was able to take a pot away from me. My image at this point is very tight. I called preflop with the intention of check rasing somewhere, wasnt sure where yet. I had villin on a range of hands including suited connectors as low as 56, a suited ace, or a big hand, lots of stuff he would make that raise with. After the flop I was thinking KQ, AK, AQ or garbage (the size of his bet was pretty much standard how he bet weather stealing or betting for value or whatever) His bet diddnt say stregnth basicaly. I just called to let him keep pushing. The turn brings the jack, a semi blank. only fear is KJ jj, but not likely. I check and call, cause hes betting the river since hes in this deep. hes betting the river with 2-3 or 8's it doesnt matter. I'm checkraising the river. River brings the queen, and this does change things. Hits KQ and QQ, could have gotten a couple other hands possible but those were the main 2. Add this with the possibility of kings, kj, or jacks and the checkraise idea isnt so cool. I dont want to lead so he can raise me if he hit. So I check to see how he bets. His 1000 dollar bet wasn't quite right. I was expecting him to jump it to 2000 if a blank hit, and I thought he might have been wanting me to call. He turns over AQspades when i called so my hand was good. I was really wondering if i should have shut the pot off earlier, specifically the turn. Check raise all in and end the hand. I let him in cheap there and the 10 comes, how does that make me feel I was thinking he was drawing very slim and i could extract some more profit with the river check rasie, hoping he had KQ and on the river I would have taken his stack. |

Glad it worked out for you ok. I just could see you kicking yourself for not hammering him with a c/r somewhere before the river. Suppose these things are very read dependent and you know you are calling the river anyway so let him did himself a hole. Nice pot.
