Re: Riot police on the diamond.
[ QUOTE ]
Riot police on the diamond. [/ QUOTE ] Did you see any police officer do anything other than protect the public? [ QUOTE ] Why are pigs in riot gear lining the field at Yankee stadium? Did the crowd really seem that unruly? They did toss a few baseballs on the field because Arod got caught cheating but bringing out the bacon brigade is a bit much. [/ QUOTE ] I think the animals were in the stands, not on the field. Police protection would be, unfortunately, needed if the Yankees had won, to keep the minority of drunken idiots from storming the field and hurting the players, the civilized fans, and each other. They were wearing riot gear to protect themselves, based on prior experience. This has become a standard precautionary procedure in most such situations around the country, and experience generally proves it necessary. A major baseball or football championship also often results in drunken brawls, street fires, and overturned cars some hours after the game. [ QUOTE ] This is what a police state looks like. [/ QUOTE ] No this is what a free country looks like, where citizens are allowed to get sloppy drunk in public and blow off steam up to the point of endangering others. I don't see how any rational person could interpret the police presence as anything other than prudent, given the history of fan reaction in the past. The problem is with people who have the attitude that police are pigs and that fans have the right to a minor riot now and then, all in good fun, since they contributed so much to the victory. |
