Re: The mysterious 11.5 gram clay chip
Some people actual say "clay feel" which is fine or "clay like" or "casino like" chips, i have no problem with it. But i will see people saying "11.5 gram 500 count clay chip set" which is a bold face lie and half the people selling these prolly have no idea what they are selling in the first place. I just hope people get wiser about chips and not fall for the wrong chips.

Re: The mysterious 11.5 gram clay chip
A fine line I suppose, but the industry accepts the word "clay" to be used in describing poker chips, even though in reality such a chip does not exist. Well, unless you happen to come across one made in the late 1800's, which could have been called, and indeed was a "clay" chip.
Everyone is after chips exactly like those used in casinos, or the best chips money can buy. And when you do find out where you can purchase them, they are advertised as "clay" chips, when in fact they are made of a synthetic polymer acrylic composite. A somewhat cheaper version of the same, may be made of a composite with some clay, or kaolin filler, mixed into a durable high impact polymer matrix. But they still are not truly "clay" chips. So technically, there are no clay chips. But its like when a recording artist records music and sells it to the public. Once the recording reaches a certain number of sales, it may be listed on Billboard top 100 Album chart. The only problem is, there ain't no albums. And there ain't no clay chips....... Rusty |

So technically, there are no clay chips. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, we all (or most) know that. But come on, you really think that it's ok to equate the totally PLASTIC (sorry, "high impact polymer matrix") poker chips to the chip similar to what you'd find in an actual casino? And you're telling me that those plastic dice chips really DO have actual clay in them? (along with the steel slug, try finding that in a casino chip) I can't tell you how many people I've met with 11.5 gram plastic chips that SWEAR they are the best thing you can get. And they truly believe it! They actaully think they are EXACTLY what casinos use, simply because they were told so by a line item description on eBay or on a website. I couldn't get them to admit that they have metal inserts if I used bamboo shoots under their nails... Ten p.s. How many times have you brought up the poker chips to a guy, and he immediately said "Cool, how many grams do they weigh? 10? Awe, mine are 11.5. (with a smug grin on his face)" |

Everyone likes the 13G casino chips I have (mainly because everyone else has "clay" dice chips) I like the 13G for the temporary solution, but I long for the day when I get my customs made. I ordered some samples from thechipstore I cant wait to see how they feel. I also have some chips from various casinos ive been to for comparison. |

Re: The mysterious 11.5 gram clay chip
I believe you are confusing album with vinyl or record. Album means a collection of songs released at one time by an arist, that would make Britney Spears' new CD an album and it would make a Ramones 8-track an album.

[/ QUOTE ] Not confused really, just pointing out that they are still called albums even though there are no albums like there used to be. And thats why they called them albums. Just as poker chips are still said to be clay, when these days they are not clay like they used to be. And thats why they called them clay, because thats what they were. |

But since none of the chips are made of clay, where do you draw the line? Accepting the fact that even the best chips on the market, the chips that are used in casinos, can be called "clay" when they truly are not, pretty much opens the door for the rest to do the same thing. |
