Re: Moving up gradually vs. jumping into the deepend

It doesn't ruin the question. I'm just establishing that it's quicker to learn HSNL play by jumping into it.

The second part of the question, and I don't think there's any real answer to this...

Moving up gradually vs. jumping into the deepend

Conventional wisdom is to start at a low limit, establish that you're a winner at that limit, and move up if your bankroll can support it. However, I've read a lot of posts in SSNL and MHSNL about...

Re: Danneman v Hachem

I think Danneman was just radiating a ton of strength in that hand. Even with my poor player reading skills, I would have thought he had a monster. The guy was just relaxed and talkative. It was...

Re: Finally saw the Andrew Black crying part on ESPN.. WTF?

That's what I think it has to be. Lack of sleep + a lot of stress = a partial breakdown over a minor thing. Obviously we don't know the entire story, but this is a reasonable explanation.

Weekend tournaments in the Bay Area?

Hey guys,

Anyone have a list of the NL tournaments that are running this weekend in the Bay Area?

I know Bay101 runs a rebuy tournament on Saturdays, but other than that, no idea.

Thanks for...

Re: investment/debt question

As other posters have said, if you already have 2+ months of living expenses in savings, investing isn't a bad idea financially.

However, when I paid off my school loans and my car, it was a great...

Re: Continuation Bet: when to and when not to fire the second shot?

Most of the time, my second shots (where I missed the flop, and missed the turn) don't work at all. It's gotten to the point where I'm mostly removing it from my list of moves to consider. Maybe if...

31k. Doing decently. Blinds are 500/1000. Er, make that 12k. Ack. I'm a donk.

Woohoo! Managed to steal once, and then nearly double up with my QQ vs AKs. Up to 8.6k. Still breathing.

Re: Party 500K guaranteed

Dammit. Crippled now at 3.6k chips. All in preflop with my 10-10 vs 5-5. He spikes the 5 on the flop. I'm in the money, but only barely.

Re: Party 500K guaranteed

11.7k in chips at the break. 410 players left. Average stack is 8.2k. Lucked out once when I was down to less than 3k chips, all in with my K-8, vs A-7. Doubled up then, and a few hands after that...

Re: Tilt Avoidance Suggestions

Well, how much of it would you say is tilt (ie doing really terrible things that you know 100% better than)?

Well, I dropped an extra $200 at the end of that 21 hour...

Re: Tilt Avoidance Suggestions

Yeah, I suppose so.

My plan from now on is to basically limit the number of hours I play to something sane. Eight at most, maybe? And give myself scheduled breaks every two hours.

I was also...

1/2 NL, $200 max buy-in live hand

Hi,

So I'm playing 1/2 NL with a $200 max buy in at the Monte Carlo. I have about $300-$350 in front of me, and I'm second to act when I'm dealt KK.

UTG limps, I raise to $15, which is a...

Re: On Star Trekkie Theme: What is \'Magic:The Gathering\' and how rela

I played M:tG at a competetive level. (One pro-tour back in the day.) There are definitely a lot of similar skills involved between poker and Magic. However, and I'll stick by this, M:tG is a lot...

Re: The min buy-in regular

I think it's simply a sign of a bad player. I saw this constantly last night at Bay 101. People we're buying into the $3-$6 with $40 or $60. Very strange.

(Course I also saw people who...

Re: The MRS asked me if I was getting hooked on Poker.

Frankly, it sounds like she's a bitch. If you make time for her, as well as enjoying your hobbies, and she can't accept that... sheesh.

She needs a hobby, from the sounds of it. And something...

Re: First visits to Garden City and Bay 101

Yeah, it's probably the smart thing to do. I'm not totally comfortable with the higher limits yet, however. The bankroll is fine, but I'm pretty new to limit poker.

I guess I'd like to see...

First visits to Garden City and Bay 101

Hi folks.

I visited Garden City and Bay 101 in San Jose for the first time, and wanted to see if my experiences there were normal.

Friday night, playing 2-4 Holdem at Garden City, and it was a...
