Re: Folding rockets
[ QUOTE ]
If everyone was playing with open hands, and showed these hands down, then I'd fold, and then I'd go play PowerBall. The likelihood of everybody having suited connectors is so slim that it isn't a consideration. But, nonetheless, the chart illustrates well the Achilles' heel of rockets. [/ QUOTE ] You're right, of course, it's only theory, but it's fun! Besides, I'm not too sure most people would fold if the cards were open. At a quick glance, without having done the calculations beforehand, my rockets may still seem to stand up quite good. adde |

Re: Folding rockets
Sklansky actually addresses this in TPFAP. He gives as the only reasonable example for folding aces PF the situation where you are in last place, just out of the money, and multiple players acting before you have already gone all-in, meaning that at least someone is going to bust out on this hand.
Are you just trying to test to see who's read TPFAP? |

Re: Folding rockets
the only reason to fold aces preflop should be if you're in a tourney like a satellite where all "paid" places get the same thing (some entry to another tourney).. i mean, unless you're gambling with your last money on earth and you need to win or else you're broke..
in other words, never fold aces preflop unless in a satellite tourney |

Re: Folding rockets
Just read page 128, 129 and 130 of David Sklansky's TPFAP. AND there is at least one other situation where you would fold those rockets with a huge all-in in front of you (Gap Concept) that would knock you out of first place in the WSOP if you lost, which is something those rockets will only all to often help you do. AND SkillPoker ofers more reasons for folding them babys. AND never say never. |

Re: Folding rockets
I play tourneys to eek into the money, lots and lots of tourneys with lots and lots of eeking wins and I make a living and please tell me, just how often does any "champion" tourney player find his way to First Place?
LOL It seems odd to me that a player wins a WPT tourney or the WSOP, we have to look at his fat face on the Travel Channel, on PokerStars and late night talk shows and he is a big hero but let's see him finish in the money 42 times out of 205 tournaments entered, and some of those 5th - 4rd - 3rd finishes on PokerSrars, etc. pay really good money. Different strokes for different folks, but I go for finishing in the money because I don't want to finish out of the money, but once I lock up 4th place, then look out "heros" - one of these days I will nail one of you, and then I too will be A Poker Legend, quoted far and wide for my immense wisdom ROFL |
