If those numbers were accurate, wouldn't there be a couple of
little updates telling how they lost their chips? Seems more likely that they just put the names in the wrong place.

LIVE UPDATE - 2005-07-12 21:55:00 PST:
There was an error in an earlier chip count, showing Phil Ivey at $130,000. That was an error. Phil Ivey has been going strong, and currently stands at $2.1 million in chips. Card Player regrets the error, and we will try to correct that posting....

My only regret is not betting like $10 on Phil Ivey to win the main event, the Bodog odds were like 250-to-1. Yikes!

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow, that's a terrible price.

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah it's just barely +EV at that price right now

[/ QUOTE ]

Huh? Aren't there like 85 players left? He can't be more than 50-1 at this point. To get 250-1 would be way more than barely +EV.

[/ QUOTE ]

With 85 players and the chip lead (or close to it), I'd bet Ivey at about 20-1 or so, maybe a shade less.

[/ QUOTE ]

my bad

i thought there were ~150 left - and mr. ivey had just higher than middle stack

i didn't actually mean that it was "barely" +ev - just that the perfect situation has had to happen for this bet to be +ev already 5 days into the tourney

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but the people at card player are idiots! They realized that they made a mistake with Ivy's chip count, but they still have Brian Stelwagan in as well as Raymer with 400,000 and Tim Phan with considerably less. Maybe they want to check the whole list next time.

01:06:35 EDT Ivey get a "free" pot
With the board [5s;][8s Qs Qh. Ivey led out with 60k in a 100k pot. He was called and when the river brought the [6s;], Ivey made it 140k to go. His opponent paused, then flashed [2][2] before folding.

The bonus for Ivey was that the hand was played before play was officially supposed to begin. No one contested the legitimacy of the hand, as the floor was never called.

Play has officially begun now.

Shawn Sheikhan eliminates Jon Kalmar
Shawn Sheikhan made a pre-flop raise to 40k and was called by John Kalmar. The flop came [10c][3c][5d] and Sheikhan bet 100k. Kalmar pushed in over the top and Sheikhan immediately called. The players turned up:

John Kalmar [Jh][10h]
Shawn Sheikhan [Ks][Kh]

The turn [9h] and river [4h] were no help to Kalmar who was sent home.

Shane Bartholomew Eliminated
Shane Bartholomew and Joe Stillman both get all their money in preflop. Bartholomew holds J-J. Stillman holds Kd-9d. The flop comes 9-8-6-8-K and Bartholomew's Jacks are elinated by two pair. Stillman comments "How many times am I going to get my money in with the worst of it? I have a problem folding King - Nine, what do you want from me?" He now has over $700,000 in chips.

MrDannimal

Correct.

FSN is the cable outlet for almost every Major League Baseball team (the Yankees have YES, I think Baltimore and Boston are also oddballs).

In order to show the tourney live on all FSN "channels" (each region has one or more, like Detroit, New York, West 1 and West 2....), when they have no idea when it will end requires that there is no possible conflict with a baseball game that they're required to air. On any given date from April 1-October 1 (give or take) there is at least 1 game. Except for 2 days: The monday before and the wednesday after the All Star Game.

The Full Tilt/Wynn tourney is thus Wednesday, just like the Turning Stone tourney last year was the same Wednesday.

(FSN has similar deals for NBA and NHL teams, which means that they're covered year round so these two days are really the only ones every year a live, unedited tourney can be shown on FSN).

Kevmath
07-13-2005, 01:27 AM
They're not really updated, they somehow can't seem to find the two women still left in the event.

Two posts from Paulle's blog (should contain errors somewhere):

Tiffany Williamson was born and raised in Columbia South Carolina. She got into this tournament on a website for $72 (40 pounds in England) . She had to win seat in four straight satellines to get here. She plays the smallest stakes in cash and tournaments on her website. She is about as close to a rank amateur as they come. She told a friend, "Phil Ivey touched my shoulder and I felt the power go through me." Bless her heart. As the first woman to ever hold one million in chips (by my guess) she should be acknjowledged. Unfortuantely sitting right in front of John Juanda has taken a toll. Tiff is down to 850k.

Later: Tiffany Williamson, the amateur, just put a world class move John Juanda, the pro. She bet and was raised preflop. She called. On the flop she hemmed and hawwed then checked. John bet 250k. Whereupon Tiff slowily pushed all her chips into the pot. "What are you doing," John asked. "I'm going all-in," Tiffany answered. Juanda mucked and Ms Williamson is back over one million.

I could see this, but I dont think ESPN would risk it. They know the long odds of all 4 of them making it. I would assume they try to get at least a couple of them together...like i said, IF (anybody have any facts on this?) they have any pull.

Table draws are done randomly, ESPN can't create the table they want to suit their purposes. Of course it wouldn't stop them from trying. When Shannon Elizabeth was still in the tournament, they allegedly tried to have her fill in a seat at the TV table.

[/ QUOTE ]

From Card Player

After a flop of As-Js-8c, Greg Raymer bets about $80,000, Tex Barch raises to about $220,000, and Raymer pushes all in. Word quickly spreads through the media and the fans that crowd-favorite Greg Raymer is all in, and a swarm quickly descends on the table. Just as quickly as everyone arrives, they soon become as motionless as Raymer himself, who calmly stares back at Barch through his signature reptilian sunglasses.

Barch, however, is in motion. He's adjusting his hat, counting out his chips, looking at Raymer's chips, and studying the defending World Champion as he contemplates whether or not to call. They are close enough in chips that this is a make-it-or-break-it hand for both of them. Looking at Raymer more closely, his breathing is normal, and he is so relaxed, at first glance you wouldn't think he was even involved in the hand.

Nobody calls the clock, even though it seems like an eternity. The break has started, and most of the players are already out of the tournament area. But nobody ever calls the clock.

After four agonizing minutes, Tex Barch folds, and Raymer's supporters (and there are plenty) breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Ok, than she puts her entire 1 million stack at risk to steal his 40,000 raise and the blinds and antes, and there is no way he will call with a hand worse than AQ. She was steaming from the hand before against him and made a bad move.

Featured Table update: Mike Matusow won a big hand and knocked out Jose Rodreguiz, who's wicked pissed. Mike's J-J beat Big Slick. After he won, he high fived a few guys in the crowd. One guy missed and smacked him in the head. He shouted, "A coinflip! I won a coinflip!" and thrust his arms in the air. Matusow is on a roll with $2.2M. 65 players are left. only problem i see with matusow winning is his recent involvement with the law. (cocaine possession or whatever)
if he wins, that will be played up, and gambling may once again be seen as a degenerative activity.

i'd like ivey to win. raymer again would be pretty sweet as well. don't get me wrong, i like matusow and would be happy if he won, but i don't know how good that would be for the game.

aside from those known guys a young internet pro would also be cool. someone, like david williams, to whom the money would mean an overwhelming much more than it would mean to say ivey or juanda. i hesitate on juanda because he may not be the best ambassador for the game. ie. his lack of english skills...not that they are horrible, but they aren't great.

That table draw makes no sense to me. How can some tables have 10 players and some only 7? I know they can't always be equal, but a difference of 3 has never been allowed in any tournament I've played.

Kick this Tiffany bitch out of the event.

What is the problem with you people? You're calling her a bitch, others are calling her fugly, still others are saying "get this woman out of here". Are you really that miserable that you need to trash someone that you've never met based on sex/appearance alone?

Klepton,

Whats your problem here? The guy you're slating so much is Andy Black, one of two Irish players left in the main event. For the record, it's not the first time that he's gone deep in this tournament either, finishing 14th in '97 (iirc). Plus he's had a respectable WSOP so far this year, finishing 10th and 28th in the two short-handed NL events.

I've played with him on the Irish/European scene a few times, and as well as being a strong player, he's also a really decent guy. There's no reason that he would be "copying" Marcel Luske; any similarities in style as regards the sunglasses is just a coincidence. Or more likely, he wears them upside down for the same reason as Marcel.

So give the guy a break. He has as much right to still be in this tournament as anyone else has. I doubt that you have a record as good as Andy in the WSOP, but even if you had, I wouldn't listen to your bs.

Oh settle down, this isn't the United Nations, it's just a damn poker forum.

I didn't make her fugly, I simply reported my opinion of her fugliness and my non-desire to see her fugliness on my TV screen.

If you like her, go for it, but I wouldn't touch that fugly with your matusow, let alone mine.

Why arn't you bitching at the people giving the Luske look-a-like a hard time?

No defense of Matusow?

AFAIK, he finds it easier to read the board this way, while still covering his eyes when observing the other players. Plus, the overhead lights have less effect on him, which makes eye strain less of an issue. I could be wrong, butI'm fairly sure that these are the reasons he's quoted as giving.

I'm not looking to take on the role of forum police.

This all seems a bit over the top to me, that's all.
