Quick one.
Soft 10/20 game at the casino. Player Profile: EMP player seems straight-forward. A bit weak/loose, but not aggressive. LMP player limps, I'm button with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]-9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and raise. SB, LMP both call. Flop (7 SB) -> A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]-5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]-10[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Checked to me, I bet, both call. Turn (5 BB) -> A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Checked to me, I bet, SB folds, LMP calls. River (7 BB) -> 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] LMP bets, I fold. Afterwards, I said, so ya hit your club eh? He responded, naw I had nothing. Not sure what to think about that but it got me thinking about the hand, if he was truthful (which there is a good chance he would not be. He's a poker player.) So are you calling or folding to the river? Seems like a lot has me beat, but I seem to think he would c/r the turn if he had an ace, and not bet out on the river if he held a 10 the whole time. Was he drawing to that club or did he miss his backdoor spade draw? I would have to win about 1 in 8 times in the long run for this call to be profitable. Naturally, I believe he hit his flush a fair portion of the time. What else is he calling the flop bet with? Think this one's an auto-call or auto-fold? |

I wouldn't call either, if he is as straightforward/predictable as you say. Seems like he's got an ace with a bad kicker, maybe A8 and was afraid you'd check down the river.

As per my "River Checkraises" thread, you should almost never fold a made hand in a reasonably decent pot against an unknown bet/raise on the river. I call down here and expect to lose to a flush a bit over 50% of the time.

I always call in those spots. I'd say I get shown a better hand about 80% of the time. Sometimes it's a flush. Sometimes it's an Ace. Sometimes it's a Ten.

"Think this one's an auto-call or auto-fold?"
ok here's one that limit based for me. when i call this at 8-16 im always shown the nuts and i feel like a real heel. so ive stopped calling there. but when i make this call around 40-80 and on up i consistently see them tap the table and muck or say "small pair" and show me Q5 or some crap. so i call more at those limits. |

This seems fishy here. Is this player capable of putting you on an ace and hoping you'll reraise without a full house here? I mean the way this played out it really looks like he at least has some sort of JT suited type hand that you lose to and he's betting for value or he is leading the river with his 3 aces or flush scared because you'll just check it through.
You have to be reasonably sure your hand isn't good here since you are getting 1 in 8 to call the river bet but there seems to be a much stronger chance this is a crying call and nothing more because he has to fear you could be holding an ace. I'd say the more straightforward the opponent then you can let go and if your opponent isn't straight forward you have to call down. |

I would normally check the turn in that spot, if I had two callers on the flop. I'm curious how many of you are usually leading again here and in similar situations.

i was playing in my normal 40-80 about two weeks ago when i had pocket 2, i think there were two or three limpers to me. I limped and the button limped as well. the flop came ace 9 5, rainbow. it was checked to me, and i saw the button was not that enthusiastic about the hand so i bet trying to steal the pot. unfortunately, the button and thebig blind called. i remember the was no pairing of the board and no two, and we checked it down. and i won. just goes to show, who knows what the #$%# they have.

I think this is a raise or fold situation. He played the Flop and turn pretty passively to be on a draw or an ace. I personally think he has a ten and figures he'll lead out because he's going to call anyway and there are a lot of hands you can muck that beat his ten if he leads out. I highly doubt he has an ace, that's the perfect hand to check call the river with for a million reasons.
Odds are you are beaten but i would raise and fold to a reraise or simpluy muck depending on the line i had on him and the limits we were playing. 10/20 or below, muck, 40/80 or above, raise, 20/40, im not sure |
