Golden Rule of Poker
How do you guys feel about this rule:
If you are the first person in a hand, raise or fold. Applied to limit hold-em with 5-10 players sitting. |

Re: Golden Rule of Poker
There is no "golden rule" that can be applied to every situation of every game. In some games, that may be the right way to play, but in almost every game I play I can think of a dozen hands where limping is correct.
For example, in a loose passive game I might limp with things like JTs to see a cheap, multiway flop. Or in a very aggressive game I would sometimes limp with big hands like AA or KK as I'm sure to have a chance to 3-bet or cap. |

Re: Golden Rule of Poker
As always, it depends. There are clearly situations where open-limping is better than open-raising.

Re: Golden Rule of Poker
That works well from CO/Button, a little less so in MP, and it's unclear in EP. and if you do it everytime you will start to get reraised, so be wary of that.

Re: Golden Rule of Poker
or maybe, "don't call a bet on the river in stud when you can't beat what the other is showing" Freaking hilarious when it happens though.
