Default ADHD and poker

Does anyone have ADHD or know of anyone who plays poker and has ADHD? I'm being tested for it now and was just curious. If so, what have you or they done to overcome it and what did you or they do to learn the skills need for poker. I learn better through video but can't seem to find any good limit intsructional videos.

I have ADD, but not ADHD. I just multitable/multitask when I play. Learning was simply a pain in the ass, but playing online and using pokertracker helped me fix what was wrong with me simply by just gaining so much experience. Videos did not work for me.

Depending on what limits you play, you might be very well served by reading Middle Limit HoldEm by Brier/Ciaffone. Instead of coming at you with a ton of theory, their book is very example-laden, which will probably cater to your style of reading/digesting.

do you know anyone who plays well who could give you lessons? That way you could structure the lessons to your preferred learning style.

Isn't ADHD the new name for ADD?

There are two components to ADHD, hyperactivity and inattentiveness. ADD only has the inattentiveness trait.

Kids and adults with ADD often do well in high stimulus environments. In my office I often hear from parents that the child is all over the place in school, but can sit and play video games motionless for hours. Multitabling may provide a high enough stimulus environment to capture the attention. Beware, however, the ADD adult is still likely to make errors from lack of sustained attention. When properly diagnosed, by a psychologist via testing and NOT by a family doctor or psychiatrist using a clinical interview alone, medications can be of great benefit. Psychotherapy does little, although some coping skills can be taught. There is a new medication on the market that is not an amphetamine or stimulant, and I've had good enough results to recommend patients consider starting with the non-stimulant med before moving to the classic stimulants. These latter meds are more likely to work, but at much higher risk to the patient.

As always, the above is for informational purposes only and should not be considered advice for any specific person. Please speak to your psychologist for advice as to the best course of action for you. And as always, your mileage may vary.

That new pill [censored] rocks. Sometimes I sit and wait by the clock when it's close to midnight so I can legally take another dose

In all seriousness, that pill has done wonders for me.

I dont think I'm to the point where i can multitable yet ADHD or not. I do well in other high stimulant situations (i.e. flying model planes and helicopters among others)but the .25/.50 games on UB are hard to stay focused. When I do focus I crush them but when i'm not my money dwindles away. Makes for a lot of ups and downs in my bankroll if there is such a thing at .25/.50 LOL.

I am stationed in Hawaii right now and don't think i would be able to find a "mentor" so to speak here. Would be nice though.

I am able to learn concepts and theory from books and 2+2 forums but dont seem to be able to focus and apply. It has to become habit for me or it is difficult.
