hand selection
what are my standards for playable hands early in a $1 tourney with blinds raising every 10 minutes, around 600 people and the top 50 getting paid? What hands should i play in what position?

Re: hand selection
I think sossman was merely pointing out the fact that your question covers an aweful lot of territory.
Personally, I would play just as if it were a ring game, pushing small edges when the stacks are deep. |

It's just that there's not really any way to answer your post without couching everything w/ the poker player's favorite response: it depends. There's no magic formula to beat tourneys. You have to know how each of the factors (# of opponents, aggressiveness, passiveness, stack sizes, # of payouts, blinds, how fast blinds increase, your table image, your relative position, and...oh yeah, your cards) influence a proper decision to check, bet (and how much to bet), call, and raise (and how much to raise), and fold. So, as you can see, you'll get better responses here if you post actual hands that come up in your play that everyone here can look at and critique. Again, sorry for the dickyness, but I was trying to make a point. Welcome. |
