1. i feel 100% poker is a sport. calling it a game infers that the outcome is mostly chance. not true

2. my thatch is shaved EXACTLY like this. want to come graze in my field?

I totally disagree. 'Sport' has nothing to do with whether or not its luck/skill. 'Sport' implies athletics. There is nothing athletic about poker. I don't consider bowling, golf, darts, or any other games that a 50 year old man can still be in his prime to be sports either. They are games....nothing wrong with that, but as a former college athlete who went through the rigors of getting up at 6am to go running, throwing up from being pushed so hard in practice, long road trips during finals, and so on and so on, I find it kinda offensive for those games to be put on the same pedestal.

My sports law professor would argue that a sport is anything that involves a ball. (hockey being a unique exception).

Anything else is entertainment. NASCAR, Boxing, etc.

Of course I spent most of my time thinking of sports that didn't have balls. Insert Granny Mae joke here

Okay i can understan bowling and darts, but golf not a sport? True, there are a few John Daly's and Craig Stadlers, but most are in peak physically condition. You worked your butt off in college and I respect that. But look at the NBA, Oliver Miller is the biggest fattest slob there is, and he's been playing professional basketball for at least 10 years. No way you're saying that basketball isn't a sport.
Poker, I wouldn't call a sport. But then again it really doesn't matter.

Default Sport different than competition!!

Poker is not a sport.
It is not even athletic competition
It IS competition which is > than a "game"

Sport should require a ball, puck, shuttlecock of some sort. It should also require the ability to defend the other players.....golf not a sport....if you could block the hole, push a guy in his backswing..then yes...but you can't so no.

Sport or nto a sport is one of my group of friends favorite "bar arguements" ever.

As I've said before, if participating in _______ is likely to make you fatter, then _______ is not a sport.
