Default When you get check-raised, does it piss you off? (live play)

Playing at Caesars Indiana Friday evening, this is only
my second live play, I check-raised twice. Once on the turn
and in another hand on the river, after I had the nut hand
and I knew they would bet. On both C/R's, I would not
want to get up and go to the bathroom if the two guys I
C/R was going to be in there.
They were visably upset, and was obviously pissed off at me.
I got a bad feeling about doing it, so I stopped.
In 10 hours of play I was not check-raised one single time
at my table. It's like it's allowed, but very seldom done.
I don't know how much it's done but Friday nite, at the only table I sat at, in that particular 4/8 game, it was done twice and I did both.

I play at ceasars every now and then, it isn't against the rules and they will get over it.

I did it (successfully) at the Excalibur in Vegas a couple of months ago, and nobody seemed to care. In fact, the guy sitting next to me said "well played" as I was gathering up the pot.

Default Actually....

I find what pissed people MORE off is when I can spot a check raise coming on the turn and check behind.

Why not do it more and make them tilt?

No, it doesn't piss me off at all, its part of the game. I use it when I need to and I expect others to do the same.

I know what you are saying though, sometimes people do get huffy and puffy about this (usually at the lower limits) because they don't really understand the game.

If you say you didn't see any check raising at your table, perhaps it is some kind of unwritten rule that players at that particular casino follow. But that's ridiculous.

If that's the case they need to get over it, obviously you didn't do anything wrong, I personally cannot imagine a game without check raising, so just keep doing what your doing and if they need to adjust their play they will do so.

I usually get pissed off at myself for not seeing it coming.

If anything, that would have encouraged me to do it more. I check raise when appropriate, and I have never had anyone seem upset by it. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention whether it upset them or not. I did have a guy in California call me greedy, but he was mostly joking.

If there's no check-raising allowed, it ain't poker.

Regards,

T

Of course check-raising is fine, but I think it's important to note there's a difference between "putting someone on tilt" and "enraging someone to the point they want to give you a beat down".

I often see advice such as "hey, so much the better, tilting them is great!" And for the most part I agree.

However (and maybe it's because I play at Commerce) there were times when I check-raised, or sucked out on someone, or whatever, that I pissed the person off so much it just got too uncomfortable for me, and I just switched tables.

That would be my advice if you felt uncomfortable, switch tables - if you're not feeling comfortable and can't use your full aresnal of weapons, probably won't be a very profitable session.

Again, online player here...
Check-raising is a part of my game and happens often at 2/4 and 3/6 online. At my home game, we initially banned the check-raise, but quickly realized that the CR is part of the game and put it in place. Next week at Mirage, will my CR piss people off? Of course, I'm not sure if that makes me more likely or less likely to do it... No, I'm sure. More likely.
