Re: No limit books by Reuben?
I was given a copy of "How good is your pot-limit hold' em?" and wasn't very impressed by it.
It is structured as a series of sets of multiple choice questions related to a particular hand. There was relatively little direct discussion about the thinking that went into playing the hands correctly. I'm a new player (especially to pot-limit), so this book may work better for experienced players. |

Re: No limit books by Reuben?
I have the pot-limit and no-limit book by him (and Ciaffone).
It's definitely worth having/reading, though I found the posts here better for learning the basics. The book deals a lot with stack sizes, position, position relative to the raiser, etc. -- important concepts but the basics of which starting cards to play, how to play the simple stuff, what a call/reraise might mean with TPTK, etc. isn't covered in a structured manner. The book is a bit scattered, but there's info tucked into its nooks and crannies. Definitely worth coming back to again and again. Edit: hold'em is only a small part of the book, so you need to extract the general concepts and apply to to your game of choice. Don't know about the other book, but did see it in the store and it looked good (lots of problems), but didn't buy it yet. Check out too Cloutier's "Championship No Limit & Pot Limit Hold 'Em" which does cover more of the basics in detail, especially the pot-limit ring game chapter. 4gapper. |
