Default The Big Blind The Movie

Just saw the advertisement for this movie here on 2+2. Anybody here seen it? Is it any good? Are there any known actors or professional poker players in it?

Thanks

I haven't seen it yet, but, according to the film's website, Scotty Nguyen and Jennifer Harmon both have roles. Apparently all the other parts are played by unknown actors.

The "Home Poker" section has a discussion RAGING on this very topic.

I'd link to it, but, well, it seems like every link on this site is just twoplustwo.com. Oh, well.

You need to stop using frames if you want the URLs to appear in the address bar.

I clicked on the banner earlier today.....seems interesting enough. As has been mentioned Scotty and Jennifer make cameos. Apparently the writer/director is a high limit player that put up his own money to make this project. (according to the website about 1 mil)

It is a "dark comedy" according to Kreigers write up in Cardplayer.com (you can link through the banner to his article).

Price is $24.95.....don't think that includes shipping.

I am personally more interested in, "High Roller- The Stu Unger Story". It has been picked up by New Line Cinema and should hit theaters in late September.

Big Blind -> Ugh...the trailer cliches made me cringe, I'll wait and see what (real) people think (sorry lou, I'm just not buying your review).

High Roller (formerly stuey) -> Woo-hoo! can't wait.

I saw this movie (It was titled "Stuey" at the time) at the nashville independent film festival in May 2003. Actually, the two main characters are from the Sopranos: Michael Imperiola (Christoper on the Sopranos)as Stu and Tony Sirilo (Paulie on the Sopranos). The film was made in 22 days right here in nashville and surrounding cities. I met Michael one night at a bar in nashville when he was filming the movie. No one else recognized him and there were hundreds of people at this place.

The movie has little poker action and actually the best gambling scene is stu playing gim rummy against Pat Morita (teacher in Karate Kid movies).

I talked with the producer of the movie: he lives just south of nashville and there were also some of the casr in attendance, mainly smaller parts like stu's mother and people in the casino (the casino portion was filmed in the casino in vegas). Many of the bar scenes filmed in nashville use actual restaurant employees as extras. The producer said he talked with many players and people who knew stu and that many players would not talk to him because they told him they had nothing good to say about him. The producer aslo said stu's daughter was agianst the movie as she still refuses to beleive all the reported things about her father. Anyway, the cinema version could have extra scenes or a few changes; I do not know. Still, it is a must see in my opinion -- great acting.
