I feel stupid asking this question
I'm reading TPFAP page 194, wherein with 1k/2k blinds you have JJ in UTG+1, and UTG raises 12k. TPFAP says to fold. Now, this seems somewhat consistent with the play I see recommended in these forums. Peolpe even make threads about folding QQ or KK. But on TV (groan), I'm pretty sure I've never seen anyone on the WPT fold a hand as great as JJ. So what is it about "TV play" that changes game play so dramatically?

Re: I feel stupid asking this question
On T.V, especially the world poker tour, the play is short handed with higher blinds in relation to stacks. JJ becomes much more valuable in these situations.

Re: I feel stupid asking this question
The example in the book is 5 handed, but point regarding blinds:stacks ratio is noted.

Re: I feel stupid asking this question
In the reno event of last years WPT a player folded J-J before the flop when there was a raise and a re raise before the flop.

Re: I feel stupid asking this question
note also that the game is edited to show the fishies how exciting poker is.
If they watch too many people fold JJ to a 6xBB raise, they'll not get that all-in goodness in their breakfast cereal. Regards, Pete H. |
