Default Rounders

What does everybody here think about the movie? (Or atleast those who have seen it) Accurate, exaggerated, inspiring, or embarrassing, because around where I live, almost everybody I know who plays poker were in someway inspired by the movie.

Fun topic, bye.

The only thing wrong with the movie is they didn't cast me in one of the parts. I'm hoping that flaw will be corrected in Rounders II.

It's kind of a neat movie, but there are some serious problems.

One of the main premises is that just because Matt Damon's character bluffs Johnny Chan out of one pot, he has what it takes to be a pro. Are you kidding. Anyone can win a pot off a pro. That's meaningless. Let's see him play 1000 hands with Chan and then take the score. I bet he's down... and more than he lost to KGB.

I think this had more to do with playing confident against the best. It proved he finally got the kahunas to play with the big boys. Maybe not beat them, but at least keep up.

I've made it abundantly clear that imho, the best part of the movie was Famke Janssen. the rest was window dressing

one of the biggest problems with this movie is that some people fail to realize this is a movie. meant for entertainment. specifically, people here think that everything should be accurate and portray the boring and unexciting life of a professional poker player, not realizing that the rest of the world would probably find no entertainment value.

if you do search the archives, you'll see many posts pointing out all the innaccuracies.

to me it is an entertaining movie, that inspires a more glamourous poker life then sitting on my ass and folding. is it a great movie? of course not. is it an entertaining movie? yes.

the movie saving private ryan is considered a great movie, and even i've noticed an innaccuracy in the movie, and i'm no ww2 buff, so i'm sure real experts can find a number others.

Dude, you need to relax. This is a fictional character. Remember what mommie taught you about real and make-believe? Those lessons apply here.

...And now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I enjoyed the movie the first time I saw it and even more after I had been playing HE for ahwile. Good movie but just that - a movie. :-)
